Has anyone here used or seen a 3 point mount trencher? PTO drives the "chain" and a hydraulic cyl. for depth control.

Before you jump into a 3pt tencher make sure your tractor has the following specs:

MINIMUM Horsepower 25 30hp or more is prefered
Your tractor also MUST be a hydro drive so you can go slow enough to trench without bogging.

We also sell trenchers, and know from experience that if you do not have a tractor that meets the above specs, you will not be happy with the performance of the machine.

I have a Woods/Dual 3pt trencher with a hydraulic motor that turns the trencher wheels with the tractor in neutral. This moves both the trencher and tractor at the desired trencher speed. It also has a hydraulic ram that shifts the weight from the rear tractor wheels to the trencher wheels for traction. Ram can lift the tractor off the ground. Hydraulic motor speed can be set to be as slow as you want. This hydro drive trencher up can be effectively used on manual shift or hydro tractors. Chain runs off pto and cutting width is adjustable. These trenchers were original made the Dual company which I think is now owned by Woods. Maybe some body out there knows whether these units are still being made by Woods/Dual. ....

Bradco makes a 3 pt hitch trencher that uses a hydraulic cylinder to lift the unit. Power is taken from the tractor's PTO. The unit should cost around $6000 new.

I just saw a used one with 15 hours advertised in the Heavy Equipment Trader magazine for $5000. It will trench from 6" to 12" wide and to 48" deep. The used unit is/was located in the 614 area code.

Kubota also sells one for the B series tractor.

If Woods still makes one, I'd be leery about ordering one unless you can wait several months. Woods hasn't been making delivery dates lately. I ordered and paid for a 9' back blade with promised delivery in four weeks. Around the delivery time the dealer told me Woods said it would take another month. I cancelled the order and ordered and received an equivalent Bush Hog blade before the Woods blade was to be delivered. ....

We have a good 600 twisty up and down feet to trench now for 4 inch conduit and more later. I am about to replace our current 1720 Ford with a 32 speed utility model (min speed about 1/4 mph, 80 PTO hp). A SSL attachment plate for the loader is my goal, for the versatility it offers.

Any thoughts on whether that setup would work with a trencher, folks?

Thanks in advance,
Jim ....
