I have been looking at a Hardy (China) compact 25hp diesel tractor with front-end loader. I will be using it to mow 24 acres and for some snow removal with the bucket. My reservations are the reliability of the tractor, availability of parts, warranty service, etc. I know of no one who has any experience with these tractors. Would I be better off purchasing a used tractor that is of a brand more commonly recognized? Can anyone help me out?

I believe in large part this would depend on you and how handy you are. Chinese tractors are not an equal to their Japanese cousins, period. They are not a bad tractor, but will likely have more problems than the equivalent Japanese tractor. The next thing to ask is how much is the Chinese tractor? Is the cost significantly less than a comparable tractor? If you are paying $8000.00 for a 24hp, 4wd, with power steering then I would conisder an equivalent Japanese grey, Shibaru, Yanmar, Iseki, Hinomoto, Mitsubishi or etc. at about $6500.00. But that is just my thoughts. Anyone else? ....

Let me preface this by saying I have absolutely no first hand knowledge of the Chinese tractors. But everything I have ready on this and other forums is that you should avoid them, as they are not reliable, and service is hard come by. ....

I have no experience with china diesel tractors, however, do own one of their 15 KW generators. This may not be a helpful comparison, as the generator is run infrequently in power outage situatuions. To this point it has performed well for my needs. It starts reliably with little problem and generates the power I need. As I said though, it is used infrequently and certainly not as frequently as I use my tractor. Keep in mind that the generators are shipped with a complete rebuild kit (rings, bearings, valves, gaskets etc.) as well as tools to do the task. I am in process of buying a used John Deere with low hrs. If the prices mentioned in the preceeding responses are in line, I believe I would (and did) stick to name brand. I've owned and tolerated a Long and before I'll do that again I'll shoot myself. My $.02. Best of luck. ....
