We have an old farmall; in need of restoration. Please tell me how to determine the year, model number, etc. so we can determine fair value.

Usually on the left side by bell housing is a serial no tag. Some models may have it in different location. Old 30, 40, 50s are typically there.

Art may know location better then I. Then there are several farmall sites that list serial numbers sequence. ....

Post the model and serial number, I can look it up for you. Depending on what model it is and where it came from the serial number plate could have been stolen off it. That is getting to be a much too common practice in the restoration business of any brand not just Farmall. By switching serial number plates they try to fake a rare model with one that isn't really so rare. There are other ways to identify the year of manufacture by using the casting codes on major componets like transmission housings etc. they should match other wise the tractor can be a box of parts type tractor. I used to be in the Farmall restorartion business and still have a few around, so I learned the hard way a time or two that there are crooks, theves, and all sorts of people trying to make a fast buck in the old tractor business. Thankfully the good people far out number the bad ones and I have some great friends I made along the way. Frank. ....

The Farmall Data Book shows the serial number plate on the left hand seat support just ahead of the belt pulley. Your serial number would indicate it being built in 1940. The letters behind the numbers sometimes indiucated certian equipment your tractor was shipped with. Frank. ....

Often from a picture I can hit the vintage close enough to tell you what it might be and where to go for the serial number plate if it hasn't been removed. ....
