I have found the following tractor in my area. 2001, B-21 Kubota 4x4 tractor, Loader TL-421, Backhoe BT-751. It has a roof and roll bar, claims to be in good condition. It has 1800 hours on it and the owner wants $16,000.

Is that a reasonable price for this device. I have never owned a tractor. I will be using it for doing landscaping/gardening for our new house. I have been considering a new Chineese tractor but this has possibilities.

Alternety,

The B21 is a very fine Tractor/Loader/Backhoe (TLB) combination. If you're looking for a piece of construction equipment, the B21 is hard to beat.

The downside to owning a TLB, rather than a Compact Utility Tractor (CUT), is that the loader and backhoe are not easily removable.

If you plan to use your tractor for garden work, mowing, or general lawn-care and maintenance, you might be better off looking at a compact utility tractor with a quick-detaching loader and sub-frame mounted backhoe.

If you plan on using your tractor for many years to come, you might want to take a look at the new Cub Cadet / Yanmar Ex3200, with loader and backhoe.

Here's a link to some that are currently listed on the market.

If the link doesn't work for you, go to tractorhouse.com. Select "tractors less than 40 horsepower", then click on the "Cub Cadet / Yanmar" link. (Not Cub Cadet)

The EX-3200 was one that I've been looking at, but have not heard much about. Being the closest dealer to where I live it makes it attractive. The fact that that dealer has only been dealing with tractors for about 6 months makes me a little uneasy. ....

Hambrospiper,

This might help to settle some of your concerns, but I'll leave it up to you to decide. A good, dependable dealer is also very important.

Yanmar has been making tractors for many, many years. John Deere contracted with Yanmar to make several of their models. There are millions of pieces of construction equipment, throughout the world, which are powered by Yanmar diesel engines. It's a proven product, with an EXCELLENT track record.

Cub Cadet and Yanmar recently reached an agreement in which Yanmar would build complete tractors for Cub Cadet. The only thing that's truly Cub Cadet on these tractors, is the color scheme and the name on the sticker. The entire tractor, to include the implements, is made by Yanmar, in a factory based in Georgia, USA.....all made by American workers.

Cub Cadet is a name many Americans are familiar with. This makes it attractive for foreign makers to align themselves with, as "Brand Name" is very important to the American consumer. However, the fact that Yanmar is marketing their equipment using this trick, or marketing technique, is no reason to be fearful of the equipment's performance or long-term operation. Yanmar has a fantastic reputation all over the world.

Yanmar is a foreign company, but so too is Honda, Toyota, and Mitsubishi......all of which have assembly plants right here in the U.S.

You're within your rights to question the quality of your local dealership......but the Yanmar product, itself, is a very dependable piece of equipment, with superb engineering and proven performance.

Thanks Joel,

I'm not saying that the Cub Cadet dealer is unreliable, all my past dealings with them have been great. I like working with them. It's just that the tractor line is new for them, but you have eased some of my concerns with the Yanmar line. It wasn't so much Yanmar as it was Cub Cadet that was bothering me, but if it's only the colors...I guess it's time to go by and actually do some hands on testing. ....

Hambrospiper,

It's rather ironic, in this case, that Yanmar may have stained its name and reputation by aligning itself with a sometimes, and often questionable product made under the Cub Cadet label.

Cub Cadet has a rather shady reputation here in the U.S. This is in part due to the many short-term marketing agreements they've had with many various manufacturers over the years.

Quite frankly, many of the products previously produced under the Cub Cadet name weren't very good.

This new agreement, with Yanmar, appears to be a very long-term relationship. Yanmar has invested billions of dollars in the new manufacturing plants in Georgia. If I'm not mistaken, Yanmar intends to produce over 100,000 diesel engines for the U.S. market, from just one of its plants, this year alone. Some of those engines will end up going into the Cub Cadet line of compact tractors. The balance will be installed in construction equipment, such as tow-along air compressors, excavators, electrical generators, etc.

For this machine I have seen MANY with 400 and less hours for 13,500 - 16,000 price range. When was the last service performed and by who? What condition are the tires and the hoses?

I just spent $450 just replacing all the worn hoses myself and my machine is a 1997 with 1300 hours.

I would feel that is this was in very good condition it would be worth $14000. as a base and +/- for anything else.

Search ebay's current and completed items to see what people are currently paying. ....
