I have a 2006 S175 with 200 hours. In the past, every 20 hours or so the engine has slowed down and stopped even with no load on the attachments. This problem has been remedied by opening taking off the fuel cap, and when this is done a little bit of air rushes into the tank to fill a vacuum.
Today, same problem but machine will not restart. Primer bulb gets sucked flat. When bulb is seperated from fuel-tank side of hose, it returns to normal position. Fuel tank hose is dry, yet the tank is topped off. Any ideas?

Sounds like the fuel cap vent is blocked with dirt. Have tried running the machine without the cap? I know when my NH skid steer runs low on fuel it does have a partial vacuum when I open the cap. However, I'm not sure that is the way it's designed; the diesel system on my truck needs a partial vacuum to run right. ....

I have the fuel cap off-- should fuel be free flowing from the tank or is the fuel pump inside of the tank? It's pretty dang crowded inside this compartment... I can only follow the the fuel line about 12 inches before it disapears. ....

I have to think it would pre-filtered at the pickup inside the tank with a mesh screen, then go through a lift pump to the fuel filter(s). Have you removed and replaced the fuel filter? Not sure you have one of this type, but I have a spin-on filter on my outdoor fuel storage tank that when it comes in conact with moisture, traps the water inside the filter media and swells up preventing passage of water AND fuel.

I'd remove the fuel filter, leave the filler cap off, and blow compressed air back through the orifice or line just before the filter. Then, semi-seal the fuel filler neck (with duct tape wrpped around the air nozzle) to accept the air nozzle and blow back through. If there is debris in the tank and you get flow under pressure (I doubt it will just run out), it is likely the debris will eventually clog the screeen again.

Thanks for the ideas, Earthwrks... I got it. Turns out the fuel line had worked its way between the tank and the oil pan and got pinched closed. Had to take the engine off the mounts to get it out! Pretty proud of myself though- thanks again. ....
