Tractor: 1974 JD2630. 400+hrs on engine rebuild and paint job.

Problems: Hooked-up brushcutter and placed tranny in park at lowest idle. Heard a "snap" (thought from brushcutter) and lost all hyd. power (loader, 3pt, steering impacted).

Known so far: Passes standby pressure check at rear hyd. outlet, 8+GPM from Transmission hyd. pump, Main hyd. pump (at nose of tractor) passes pressure check and looks fine on tear down.

Not know so far: Root cause! Check valve? Tranny hyd. pump?? If anyone has advice, I would appreciate it. This old girl has never let me down till now and want to get her going again. Thanks.

Thanks for reply Mr. White.

Still learning about this, but know so far...
Main hyd. pump (one in hose) receives hyd. fluid from Transmission oil/hyd. pump. My tractor has 8+GPM hyd. outlet flow (at idle) from Transmission oil/hyd. pump.
If no/weak outlet from Transmission oil/hyd. pump, then Main hyd. pump does not function. Since my tractor also passes pressure check on Main hyd. pump, I have not identified problem yet... ....

Saeldrid, Art is great and a hyd mechanic I am not. The noise you heard may not have anything to do with the hyd problem and could be affecting your thoughts on trouble shooting. Your brush cutter is pto driven correct? If I understood you, your pump seems to have proper volumne, yet nothing works. Is it possible some kind of trash went through the pump and is blocking the valves? Is it cold enough where your tractor is that ice is a possible problem? Sure wish I had better idea for you. kt

Thx kt,

Agree that "snap" noise probably not related. Disassembled Main pump and it looks good (inspected by mechanical engineer/pump repair expert - my wife =). Starts fine; not much ice in North TX. Will probably look at check values bet. Main and inlets to Trans.

Shawn ....
