Hi All! Newbie here. My question is for a counterweight for the 3 pt hitch setup. I'm planning to make one with a 24' drawbar and a small plastic drum. How much would be an effective weight without overloading the tractor?

And unless your CUT is a really huge one, the 24' drawbar, well... ....

The goal is to counterbalance whatever is on the front of your tractor (snowblower, loader, etc). I don't know about Kubota but the JD manual gives good advice on the amount of weight required. Have you checked your manual? With something like a loader the weight varies depending on the bucket load or whatever implement is attached, so you pick a compromise weight. If your tires are loaded that is part of the counterbalance weight that you take into account. Often folks will use something like a box scraper as a counterbalance, which is what I use (along with loaded tires). ....

If the goal is to counter-balance what the FEL is doing, a good rule of thumb is to have no less weight on the 3pth as a counter-balance than the weight of whatever you will be picking up.
For example, if you will be picking 500 pounds, put no less than 500 pounds on the 3pth.
The owners manual for the tractor and/or loader usually offers some guidance as to how much weight is recommended.

Most all makes and models will pick half the capacity of the loader without the tractor getting light in the rear. To add three hundred lbs on the three point should be enough for most all loads. Murf's suggestion is a good one but a little heavy for some uses. Kubota's own weight box for that model tractor is a three hundred lb capacity. ....

I've got 250 pounds on the three-point hitch, plus the weight of the drawbar. It totals up to about 275 pounds, and it's perfect for me.
Your tractor is very similar to my B2100.
Rather than figuring out how to mount a pail, you might consider using suitcase weights. Most weights have a carry handle formed into them. If you were to cut those weights in half, and then use the carry handle to run your drawbar through, it should work out perfectly for you.

From what I've read in my manual, I'm going with 450 lbs. My AG tires are not loaded so that made me jack up the weight a bit. 6 bags of concrete mixed up should do the trick.
