Having finally cutting a deal on a ZTR mower, I was going to MD to get it two weekends ago. It so happened that my friend Bob had been dealing on a Ventrac in Delaware, only 1-1/2 hours away from the mower I was buying. He renewed negotiations on the Ventrac, and reached an agreement pending final inspection of the unit. We loaded up his 2500 Ram with a borrowed trailer, and after dealing with the usual hassle of getting the trailer lights and brakes working (I finished the brake wiring while he got the paperwork done at the dealership); came back the next day with my Gravely ZTR and his Ventrac. Included with his deal was a power angle plowing blade and 72" finish mower; also a dual-wheel kit. The VXD has a 31 hp turbo-diesel engine. It is a used machine but in very good shape.
I'd never even seen a Ventrac before this. It is an interesting machine, and appears to be capable of mowing the steep slopes he requires. Implements are pricey, but used ones can be found given time.
We are both happy with our purchases. I'll have to wait to use the Gravely, but he has been happily clearing driveways of snow this week.

I to have just purchased the 4200 VXD with the 31 hp.Briggs-Diahatsu.It has unbelieveable power and is quiet.I got the 60" mower,3-pt. hitch, folding rollbar for the options.I already have a Ventrac generator, steiner tiller, slip scoop 60"power angle blade.Has anyone had any problems with the machine or attachments? I passed the Orrville,Oh. 3 mi. turnoff and wished I had the time to see the factory, but was pressed for time (1200 mi.in one day to pick up tractor).Has anyone saw the factory, would it be a worthwhile return trip? Eddie ....

Well after 8 hrs ,I have a broken rear axle. I am having a hard time getting Valley Ventrac to get the parts ordered.I called early Mon. morning and as of 11:00 am Wed. nothing has been ordered.(I checked with the factory).I promptly called another dealer and got parts coming.I expect a dealer to go above and beyond to get parts to the customer, after a breakdown in less than 2 weeks. Thanks TnT Williamsburg.Ia for getting the parts coming. I am still happy with the tractor, but not with Valley Ventrac service. Eddie ....

eddie...I was told by the same guy(bill) if that was who it was...For a steiner tractor with deisel engine that the torque was so great that axels are replaced alot and they would try and push the gas models instead. I don't know about the Ventrac but probably has the same issues with the deisel torque since Ventrac owners were once Steiner owners. I think you might have to "take it easy and not over do it" in the long run with that subcompact tractor. Good luck with your unit. ....

The peerless transaxle should take 1200 ft.lbs of torque. It will also handle 1800 lbs. of weight per axle.I think the outer bearing was the culprit, when it went out it put the axle in a bind. The Ventrac uses 35 mm axles so when I it get back together,I dont think I will baby it.The axle really didnt break, but it sure got chewed up. ....
