I would assume water got into our gear oil through rotting shift boots, now there is what appears to be fluid mixed with water coming from the boot area and an overflow valve in the rear of the seat. We assume we need to change it but do not know where the drain valve is. From previous forums, I understand that regular gear oil (3.17 gal) is appropriate. Are we on the right track??

Some makes take gear oil, others require a combination hydraulic/transmission fluid. Some have a single drain point; others have as many as four. Some have a screen filter that should be cleaned with new fluid, others don't. I don't recognize that model designation so I don't know what make your tractor is, and will just offer one comment.
A tractor can last your lifetime if serviced, and you're the guy who'll be doing the mainenance. A few bucks for an owners manual, or better a service manual, would be a worthwhile investment.

I agree about the manual but just as difficult as it is to recognize the tractor number, it is as difficult to find an appropriate manual. But thanks for the advice and we will keep looking for the manual. :-( ....
