My buddy has a 7300 that he has replaced the fuel filter, air filter, has good fuel in it, etc. Idles fine, no smoke, runs well until it goes under a load (using FEL or mower or driving up hill) Then it starts missing terribly. Seems to work fine with low RPMS under 2000 RPM. Any ideas?

Blueman: You don't say if the tractor is a gasoline or diesel engine. If it is a gas your symptoms usually indicate a weak spark that won't fire under highre cylinder pressures of load. Check the spark plugs, if they are the right plug and appear good, then work your way back to the distributor, etc., something will show up. Diesels seldom develop a "Miss", unlesss an individual injector goes bad, they either run weak or just stop. 9 times out of ten if a diesel runs slow or weak the fuel filters are to blame. The 7300 is definfitely diesel and I'd look for a plugged fuel line. We often fint that as the most common problem with them. For the described problem I'd next head for the injectors. ....

Blueman,

Once you've eliminated any possibility of a fuel delivery problem........

At higher RPMs, the valve train may be the problem. Possibly a weak or broken valve spring, or even a valve timing problem.

Valve problems usually show up at higher RPMs.
