I need a replacement pto shaft for my LandPride 2584 mower. The local dealer quoted $400. Is there a place to find a used one, or, can a machine shop make one? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Redd

First off, what exactly is wrong with the one you have? Also you can save some cash by looking at Tractor Supply and places like that. ....

Redman,

Are you referring to the shaft that comes from the tractor to the mower?

Or, do I have it all wrong? Maybe you are referring to the shaft that's sticking out of the mower's gearbox?

If you need a new PTO shaft coming from the tractor to the mower, you can find a replacement at any Tractor Supply Company, or most other farm supply stores.

If you need the shaft that powers your mower's gearbox, you'll likely be able to find one at most Bearing, Gear, and Drive outlets. However, you'll have to remove it first, so that the dealer can match it up for you.

The gearbox on your mower is most likely an off-the-shelf item. It is used in many different applications, and is (most likely) not specific to the Landpride mower.

Redman, I think your dealer is over-charging you. I bought a slip clutch PTO shaft option/upgrade with my FDR 2560 and it was $125 more than a standard shear-pin shaft. Given that a shear type shaft should be no more than a hundred bucks, that still makes the price you're being charged seem way too much. I'd definitely shop around.
Best of luck. ....
