I have about had enough of getting such outrageous quotes on the same Woods 7500 from different dealers. I have gotten quotes from 4500 to 8000! on the same unit. HOW????? I know that the cost must be around 3,800-4200 to the dealer, so how can these guys live with themselves screwing people for as much as a 100% mark up? It's the same darn unit from the same manufacture. I can see a machine being a 1,000 plus or minus from one guy to the next, but a an implement. So what is going on?Has anyone experienced this situation? All I know is the heck with "Internet" companies selling implements such as this.I have to stick up for my local dealer. When I explained myself and pleaded for help, he was the one and only person who gave me a bottom line price with exactly what I needed, and ended up matching an internet quote (even included picking up my machine and returning it ready to go). So other then my interest in why there is such a price difference on an implement, My word of advice is to stick to your local dealer, and work out a price with him.

OK, so you got frustrated, but let me get this right. You shopped online to get a good price which you convinced the dealer to match. Now how much would you have paid otherwise? Would you have know the difference? Sounds like you got both the good and the bad or in other words you had to invest some time to save. Maybe not that bad? ....

Steve, I can't believe you got upset at dealers trying to charge 100% mark-up on a particular product they sell. How about the manufacturer, in this case Woods, who sell you about $200 worth of Steel, $700 worth of Hydraulics, $300 worth of fabricating and welding, put $100 worth of paint and advertising into the blend then sell it for 300% of their cost to produce it? Or your dealer, nice guy that he is, who charges 300% his labour cost as a shop rate? I know in any service industry the 'rule of thumb' for calculating a price is material (marked up) plus 2.5 to 3 times the labour cost, in other words $50 material and $50 labour is a ($100 material + $300 labour) $400 job .... just ask your plumber...LOL
Have fun with the new toy, er, umm, I mean tool..... ....

The dealer may not be charging the markup you assume. Woods (like many companies) has different levels of dealer discount according to sales volumn. The higher priced dealer may be selling for less profit than lower priced dealer. The lower price may be higher than the high priced dealers cost. ....

I've been pricing the Woods 7500 (3 pt w/pump). I have quotes from $5300 to $6500. The high price dealer justified his price because his rent is higher. As far as I'm concerned, $1200 price difference is plenty of incentive to drive a couple of hours to a low rent dealer to pick up a backhoe. ....

Amen to that Mike! This brings up a point that I forgot to mention. It's the point that drives my view home, reguardless of markups, who's willing to pay the most ect....

Isn't it better to make something off a sale, then make nothing by losing a potental client with an insulting quote? Or what the heck, they figure for every five they lose, the one sucker who will pay 1,500 or 2,500 more makes up for giving a good deal to the "informed" guy.

Selling a Backhoe is a phone call from the dealer, for a nice little profit.
Seems there should be some room in the price to stay competitive, requardless of the price break Woods gives them.

I am not saying that dealers should give tractors and implements away, but some sort of "competitive"price structure would be great. I know that on the John Deere tractors, almost four different dealers were within 1,000.00, so there was some sanity to it. And that was on a 14,000.00 machine. Why such a problem with a 5,000.00 implement. Well I don't think I can get anyone to side with me anyway, but it was nice to complain a little..........

FYI, On Saturday 4/1 I visited a dealer in Edwardsburg, MI (SW MI). He had a brand new Woods 7500 hoe including hydraulic pump for $4750. Thought it was a pretty fair price. FYI, if you're interested, the dealer's name is Smith Implements. ....
