I live in Lynchburg VA. on approximately 11 acres.
Looking to buy a B7800 in the next week or so. The price I have for FEL, 60" MMM is $17,700. How does that sound?
Also dealer suggested Turf Tires would work nicely. Comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Mark; I'm too green in my choice of tractor brands to know much about the Kubots prices. Kubota builds good machines and has a top dealer network to take care of your parts and service needs for many years down the road. That said, and being I've kinda already shot my mouth off on another thread tonight about tire tread choices I will interject my thoughts a bit. Ask the dealer why he thinks turfs would be the best choice for you, possibly you have a special need situation that would make them more desireable but here in eastern iowa for all around lawn, loader work, road wear, light field work, etc. the R-4's probably out sell turf's by a 50 to one. My brother in law is a very devoted Kubota man, he wouldn't give my green ones shed room, so there you go. Enjoy what you buy. Frank. ....

Thanks for the feedback. The dealer felt that turf tires would be fine if I were using primarily for lawn work (grass, mulching, aerating, etc.) Here in Virginia, we have very little snow. However, I would use it to move mulch, and dirt. Just not sure if turf tires would give me enough traction. ....

If you are going to be moving mulch and dirt, don't forget a toothbar. They make a big difference when trying to push into a pile. I have a 7800 with FEL/toothbar and box blade. The 7800 is not much of a digging machine, but if you have a pile to move, it is very worthy. The box blade works well as a balast, which you need if you have a bucket full of dirt, even with loaded tires. The box blade also works well if you need to scrape the ground surface to break it up, then scoop it with the FEL. There have been times when I wish I had a few more features or a little bigger model, but 90% of the time it has been perfect. Good luck with your purchase. ....

Also looking at buying the 7800hsd here in Canada. $12,500 for the tractor and about 3500 for 72" belly mower. Seems like good value, and they seem to hold value well. I was considering turf tires, but think I will use the industrial instead. Dealer says they should be fine for grass as long as I don't use the 4wd. ....

You shouldn't need the four wheel drive for mowing and the turf tires are a good tire for most all conditions except working in mud. They do fill up quicker then the industrials but not by much and both are slow to clean. The turf work well in snow with little effort with a solid drive surface and actually is quite good in comparision. ....

So I am now the proud owner of a B7800HSD, with 72" belly mount mower and a snowblower, (required here in Canada):). Spent 4 hours breaking it in doing the lawn last weekend. Great unit and easy to handle, although I found the control for the mid pto to be stubborn at times. You need to engage the clutch a bit, roll forward and then pop the pto lever in place as you push in the clutch. I'll be asking the dealer about this- wondering if anyone else has the same issue. Also surprised at the rpm recommendation of 2500 for operation. Seems high, as we have a B21 at work and it is lower. The manual suggests that there is a break in period and says not to run the unit at that high rpm initially, but offers no guidance on what is appropriate. I have been staying around 1900-2100- any ideas out there? ....

I think that's the optimal RPM for the motor and the PTO gear ratio is set up so at that engine speed the rear PTO will be spinning at 540 RPM. Lower engine speeds will just slow the PTO below the recomended speeds. You very well might find the MM runs just fine with less RPMs, even lighter fluffy snow may not need the blower at full speed. Some of the older models had a two speed PTO (540/ 1000). That was nice because you could run the motor at a lower RPM and in the higher PTO RPM if you weren't taxing the motor too much and save some fuel. Of course you could run PTO attachments at a speed much higher than they were built for too, hense I'm not sure if the two speed PTO's are offered anymore. ....
