Hi there, I have an alice Chalmers sicklebar mower, it is off of a 1946 model C. It is in ok condition for it's age, needs a new wood actuator arm. Anyone interested in buying it? I have never used it. To big for me, about 6ft. long cutter and I think it was designed to drag along the ground from the looks of it. Shame to let it sit and rust. let me know.

Yan; Likely a farm supply store (Fleet Farm, TSC, or maybe an AGCO--Allis Dealer}, can get you a new pitman stick,(actuator arm). If not and you have the old one still in one piece and a piece of straight grain oak they are simple to make, I've made lots of them for neighbors in the past, a new ptiman from Deere is like 45.00, but you can make one for pennies worth of oak. Fix it up a bit put an ad in the local paper. This time of year no matter how old it is, if it works it will sell. Best of luck. Frank. ....

Thank you for the advice, part of the pitman is there, will look to see if the total length is available and probably do it myself. Do you or anyone have an idea what it would be worth? If so maybe a ballpark so I do not look to cheap or to expensive. Thank you for the info. Yan ....

Yan; Glad to hear you are going to make the pitman yourself. The only advice I will offer is to keep it as close to the same size and profile as the original. It is tempting to make one that is larger in diamiter tnan the original to make it stronger. Don't do it, they usually had a slender center section for a reason, less weight to change directions many times a second just made it easier on bearings or whatever else held it in place. Kind of the same theory why hot rod engine builders always wanted the lightest possible connecting rods and pistons in their race engines. Sorry to have strayed from your question about pricing but several things will influence the price, for example what kind of shape are the sickle sections, the cutterbar guards, PTO drive componets in? Does it fit only an Allis model "C"? So without knowing any of those factors it is about impossible to give you a set in stone value. But asuming that the mower will be in a useable condition, and fit the buyers tractor I would guess that 2-400 dollars would'nt be out of line. Have a great evening. Frank. ....

I have an International Harvester model from about that same era but with one single rear wheel that swivels. I've seen the type like mine often on Ebay. Asking prices have been from $175.00 to $650.00 depending upon condition and owner's perceived value. Don't know what they actually went for as the auction closed. I'm also thinking about selling mine along with some other tractors and stuff. In our area of Michigan, Ohio and Indiania there is a weekly paper and website that lists cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, RV's and tractors etc. The website is auto-rv.com. They at times may also list similar stuff for pricing suggestions.
Funny thing, this morning one of the guys at the shop said he picked up a "New Idea" brand this weekend for $75.00 that also included a spare gearbox and extra blade. Says he needs to also make a new pitman arm for his. I think he got a great deal. ....

Well, I guess I will check out ebay. Have never auctioned anything like this or anything for that matter. Just tired of seeing it sit in the field and my wife saying "when are you going to get rid of that thing" Guess orange color does not blend with yard stuff, will move to barn or other location where I will forget about it and my grandsons will sell it for 100k in 2057 or so. ....

In a local newspaper I saw a Ford 3 point 7ft. Sickle bar mower for sale with an asking price of $475.00. Hope that may help to establish a pricing starting point. ....
