I own a Kubota B7800 (30 Hp compact) and am thinking of buying a 12" - 2 bottom moldboard plow to work on foodplots. The manual specifies this as the largest plow to use with this tractor. Does anyone have any experience plowing with this tractor?

I have a 33 hp blue and have plowed with an old JD 2-bottom (bigger than 12"??)in hard clay with no problems. It's 4x4 with R-4's. Ag's would probably be better IMHO. ....

For food plots we have customers using there tillers with good success. A lot does depend on what you are working with for soil but you should be in low range and about 2/3rds throttle. Your traction here is going to be key so ballasting should be considered. To plow with a loader on would add a fair amount of weight to the front to offset the plows weight and to overcome the down draft.
Tires have already been mentioned as to the best traction but a little secret that I found on sod that is wet is not to drive over it more then once. That way you have the advantage of the root struture to hold the soil from being the mud that it is. ....

Art,
Thanks for your reply. I also own a bx2200 for which I have a Woods tiller (32"). I use it in my garden and it works really well now that I've hauled rock out for several years. The fields I intend to work are rocky so I'm apprehensive about using a tiller. My neighbor had planted this section for several years using plow & harrow, but his equipment is much larger than mine.
Thanks again for your input.:-) ....

Set the tiller shallow so it only tills about four inches deep. Then hit it again later or on a dry day and the dirt should seperate out nicely from the roots holding back the growth if you till it a couple of times like this to dry out the old plants roots. ....

I use to have a NH TC35 with R4's and plowed gardens in the spring with a 2-16 for several years, so I don't see why a 30hp would have problems with a 2-12 ....

I ahve a 4wd l3000 32 HP and I am pulling 14" 2 bottom plows and I generaly can pull them in 2wd in all conditions no problem. Sometimes I have to use 4wd if I am breaking new ground. I used to have a b7300 and it did ok with 1-12" bottom so I think yours will do fine. ....
