Hi everyone. My BX mower deck is making a grinding noise. Not all the time but enough to drive me crazy. It sounded like the same sound when you bend the side of the deck and it gets hit by a blade. I know the blades aren't hitting the deck anywhere because nothing is bent and there is no shiny metal anywhere.

It DOES NOT do it all the time only a few click click click click real fast here and there. Definitly sounds like a blade hiting somehting but they really aren't.

It did this in the past then stopped but it started up again. I did hit a big rock today sucking up leaves but nothing is bent anywhere???

Any suggestions?

I'd check your belt idler system as well as to check the bottom for something loose. With the belt removed spin all spindles and look for clearences of the blades, check the smoothness of the spin of the spindles ....

I'll bet you dollors to dougnuts that the blade tips are hitting. Because they slip when mowing higher or wetter grass it slips and the center blade is contacting one of the outside blades and then slips some more after it makes contact. Check your bearing mounting bolts for tightness and your belt tensioner, or worn belt. ....

I would also check the U joints. One of mine on my BX 2230 started to bind a little. I replaced it, now it is much better. You should take the mower deck off to check the U points. ....

Mine is the least costly and easy so hope it is the cause...a piece of wire picked up and on one of the blades. This can be hard to see if a rusty wire and wrapped around the spindle. ....
