Alright, 2000 F250 SD w/diesel 4x4, etc...
Truck has rear ABS only. The ABS light kicked on this morning so I have no rear ABS. Also, the speedo no longer functions below 35 mph. Speedo kicks in when I get to and above 35 mph and drops to 0 when I slow down below 35 mph. Also, the overdrive light on the auto tranny lever flashes a long sequence of flashes.

Any idea of the possible causes? Dealership with the computer to read the problem can't get me in until Monday.

Have you driven in a bunch of rain lately such that the module got wet? Another chance is to disconnect the battery at the terminals for over 1/2 hour. I've been told that the computer then resets itself. ....

We've had rain off an on. But no rain last night and it worked fine. Then this morning, it didn't work while parked in the garage.

I'll check with the local auto parts guys and see if they have a scanner. ....

Right up to the tranny sending you sephamore signals I was thinking it was a bad wheel sensor. They will do exactly what you described.

When I got to the flashing light part, not so good.

From what I know of the auto's (we got rid of all of ours) anytime the shifter light flashes means the problem involves the tranny. To what extent it is involved Iwouldn't even care to guess.

Best of luck. ....

My 2002 F-150 had the tranny light flashing and also shifted very hard at eleven months and 11,000 miles. Turned out a part went bad, was a rare problem and I had to wait two weeks for parts. They also replaced the main computer as they thought it went out also.

All was covered under warranty and now I have 44,000 miles with no problems at all.

I am not up on the F250's but it sure does sound like a speed sensor either on the transmission or at the wheels. In many applications called the VSSB or vehicle speed sensor buffer which is typically mounted on the transmission. The VSSB typically is configured to send a gathered and conbined speed data signal to the speedometer. Might be worth taking a look in this area. ....

I thought it was a speed sensor due to the need for it for the ABS and the speedo. Turns out it was the rear axle speed sensor. I didn't get time to hit an auto parts store for a diagnosis due to job interview call-backs (good for me). So I dropped it off this morning and they found which one it was and replaced it. Everything works now. ....
