i recently aquired a '74 cub 149 Hydrostatic. It has been hidden away, neglected in a shed for about 8 years. My plan - already under way - is to get it functional again. Once done I will most likely tear it all apart again and repaint it. I had to do some searching on ebay to find some of the missing pieces. One in particular - the drive shaft or tunnel cover. This has a lever on the right side that at least on the second hand one I recently bought, doesn't seem to contact anything. What is the purpose of the lever?

The lever with a spring plate type lever would relieve the hyrdro so you could push it without the hydro holding you back. Many of the later replacement servos didn't have the relief button on the top to work with this system. There were two buttons that are about the same diameter and about the same size of a pen top sticking out of the top of the relief valves on top of the hydro. ....

yup - I noticed the two buttons about 1/8 to 3/16 in diameter on top of the transmission. Thought they might be a bypass of some sort. That's good information to know - mystery solved - thanks for cluing me in. ....
