...reversible control for one of their CUT models. In other words if you used it much of the time for mowing wouldn't it work nicely to be able to turn the basic controls around including the seating position, hook up the rear mount mower and drive around in reverse as you would fork lift style? One could turn in a much tighter radius plus have the mower out in front where you could see exactly what's going on. Also you wouldn't mat the grass down before cutting it. Of course you would want to have normal forward facing controls for regular tractor uses too.

Before you get into the practical engineering problems associated with swapping the control direction, what are your thoughts on the basic convertible tractor?

I have never seen them in my part of the world but there are farm tractors with a front 3pt hitch. Look on the big tractor web sites and you will find them pushing plows and pulling plows or disk or such. I realize that is not exactly what you are talking about but offers some of the same benefits.

Dave, I hate to burst your bubble, I mean you haven't started spending the millions you'll make designing them or anything have you??? LOL.

Antonio Carraro (the Italian tractor manuf.) amongst others, have been making reversible tractors for the vineyards and orchards for years.

Best of luck. ....

No Murf, In terms of making an income, I'll stick to what I do best. I didn't think it would be a new idea. I was just looking for conversation. Besides, if it was a "great new idea," my posting it here would probably make it public domain. Or worse yet, make it Dennis' intellectual property. :)

Thanks for the link Murf.

Dave ....

New Holland has been making them for years in the large tractors call Bidirectionals---you can even have a loader on the "rear". They had a lot problems with the control cables losing adjustment since the entire inside of the cab---seat, dash and controls rotate over 200 degrees.

And back in the 30's and 40's enterprising guys would take existing tractors and turn them into forklifts. You can see a lot of the regular tractors in Case's line of Construction King forklifts made even in the 1980's. ....

I have seen The TV tractors with 10,000 hrs. and not have a problem. The older Versatiles were a mess though. ....

Tony, I stand corrected--it was a Versatile. Did NH buy them? Or was Versatile a New Holland brand all along? ....

They used to be a collaborated effort. The made the articulated and the xx80 series farm tractors for New Holland. It is actually Buhler Versatile. They still make tractors today and have improved greatly over the years to be a very respectable unit. ....
