Hi All,
I'm new to this forum--found it while researching a potenital purchase. I am looking at buying a Kubota T1700HX (small potatoes compared to some of the big boy tractors discussed here) but I am just looking to use it for cutting a little over an acre of lawn, pulling a small trailer and hopefully plowing my driveway.
My questions are does anyone have any advice as to the overall performance and longevity of this model. It was purchased new in 1994 and has 194 hours on the engine. I think I can get it for $1,100.00 usd. It is in great shape, always garaged etc. Is that a good price? Any problems with this model? And just how difficult is it to find a blade (part #T2083) or blower (part#T2541) for this tractor?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

They list all the prior "official" models imported to the US.

All others are considered "grey market" tractors, for which there is not parts support or accessories offered.

I am no expert on grey market tractors, if indeed this is one, but we have others here who are very knowledgeable.

You have a great price on a low hour machine, the question is how difficult it will be to get parts.

Due simply to its age you might not find an exact blower or front plow still available, but I would bet you could modify a plow made for an ATV with satisfactory results. ....

Oh right, yes it is listed under the prior year catagory. I actually printed out the specs from the Kabota site which is how I found the attachment part numbers.
So, you think it's a good price? That makes me feel better about the purchase. The guy listed it at 1800.00 but settled for 1100.00 since he is moving and needs to get it out. He gave me all original paperwork etc.
I couldn't read your entire message--got cut off, I think, due to the fact that I'm a new member? Would love to hear more about alternative plow attachment.
Thanks ....

This tractor is listed on the Kubota site under the Prior Products list along with all the options available at that time. Sounds like a good buy on a nice little tractor if parts can be located when needed. ....

I called the local Kubota dealer where the tractor was purchased new. They said repair parts wouldn't be a problem but attachements would be hard to come by--I would really like a plow--so, I either have to get lucky and find a used one or as DRankin suggested rig something up--how difficult would that be? I didn't even think of that. ....

The ATV plows generally have a sub-frame that extends completely under the vehicle a attach's to a trailer ball or similar place.

The frame will have a couple places where it it is stabilized to the front frame of the ATV and then frame and plow is lifted by means of a hand lever or a small winch.

Look up Northern Tool, Cabelas or Cycle Country for more info.

Is this model a 4wd?

Does it already have a mower deck?

Thanks for the tip--It is not a 4WD so, I would need weights and chains which are not hard to find. It does have a mower deck--44" cut.
I need to check it out more closely before purchase because the local dealer said that they tend to rot out at the linkage and where blades attach to the deck--anyone have a problem with this issue--with Kubota?
Although it is impossible to tell really, any educated guesses as to the life span I can expect out of a machine like this? As I said earlier, it is a 1994 with 194hours
17hp
Thanks for all the helpful information--great site. ....

"This tractor is listed on the Kubota site under the Prior Products list along with all the options available at that time. "

OK... I found it.... a 26KB connection problem.... I thought the whole page had downloaded and didn't wait to see the bottom.

Sorry about that.... ....

yup, that's the one. As I was looking at that picture, I noticed the tires are in much better shape than the one I'm buying--any ideas on how much it would cost to replace all four tires? ....

Google "turf tires" or go to gemplers.com for some ballpark prices. The sizes are on the Kubota link.

I would guess about $35-$50 per tire based on 2 ply turfs.

I just got some much bigger 4 ply turfs for the front end of my Deere yesterday and they about $70 each. ....

I received an email notification that there was a new post to this thread. Just thought I'd reply, letting you know that it has been 8 years since my original post looking for advice/information on this lawn tractor and, I'm happy to report it's still going strong! I'm fortunate to have a local Kubota dealer nearby which makes getting parts (belts, blades, etc.) easy. Other than routine maintenance, I've had no problems with it. It's a strong machine. I live in a relatively suburban neighborhood, and all of my neighbors have the Home Depot model John Deere tractors. They asked me why I paid $1,100.00 for an 11 year old tractor at the time when I could get a new one like theirs at Home Depot for close to the same price. Well, eight years later, theirs have had all sorts of problems including cracked plastic hoods. My Kubota is a beast! I love it so much that I named my 6 year old dog (Golden Retriever) Kubota! LOL...Turns out, it's a pretty cool name for a dog. ....

Sorry, I didn't pay attention to the post date. I actually have two, T1400 and T1700 sense 1998. Only issue I've had with either one was the pivot pin on the take-up idler for the HST Drive belt. No grease fitting and eventually locks up. Kubota is getting a little proud of part on these machines. Drive belt's are a week out and almost $100.00 ea :(
I also own a big old Simplicity that I use for my mule work. ....

Pongoz;

There must be a profit motive of some sort that Deere has selling the cheap made Home Depot mowers. Deere has a habit of staying in the black on anything they sell, but those cheapies can't be doing their reputation any good. A Deere mower bought from a Deere dealership will cost a ton more but not be junk in five years.

Frank,

Those little "JD" units at Home Depot (we call them "Lawn Deeres" BTW) are not built, serviced or warrantied by Deere.

They are MTD units built under license from Deere.

A few years back MTD started buying up all the riding lawn mower companies and the names of those they couldn't buy. They now produce all Bolens, Yard Machine, Yard-Man, Remington, MTD, Ryobi, JCPenney, Massey Ferguson, Cub Cadet, John Deere and Toro just to name a few.

John Deere for one became a master of cross-marketing years ago, witness the whole sections of Deere clothing nowadays.

Best of luck.

I just bought a t1700hx. can you tell me how to change the transmission fluid? I pulled the lower plug but I drained the differential. I think to refill that I have to pull the large plug at axle height. What oil do I use for that? Also need a fan for the top of the air cooled hydra stat transmission. Anyone know where those come cheap? ....

These are nice little tractors. I've owned mine sense 1996 it has 829.9 hrs just replaced the deck with a new 44" from a 48". Deck idlers are a semi annual replacement. You can drill the idler and replace the bearings with a 62203 bearing. The idler on the hydraulic pump has a tendency to lock up. It will appear to be a pump problem but it's just the idler not tensioning the belt ....
