Hi folks I was courious if there are any 48 backhoes out there? I want it for the 4600 John Deere I am purchasing. I find that $7,000 is pricy for just adding a backhoe. ThanksMark Holtmarkh@dedot.com

You can buy a couple different models of Kelley backhoes for a lot less than $7000. If interested contact me at sheaftractor@coiinc.com or 815-284-3226. ....

I have a 48 backhoe and love it. Have 12" and 18" bucket. Easy to put on and take off. Can fit tractor into tight spaces and get the work done. Very solid feel. The controls are very good. John Deere got this one right. Be sure to lube it after every day's use. What ever you do don't get a 3-point backhoe. Had one and it was a pain.

Jeff, I also have a 855. I'm torn between the Woods 7500 and the JD model 7. I've posted on this subject before, but I still can't decide. JD hoe looks like it would be quickest on/off, closest to tractor, most secure mount, but also the highest price option and weakest performance. The Woods is cheaper, stronger digging, faster action (with PTO pump - do you have this?), better bucket, but I'm concerned about the stress on the PTO and tractor, and that the mount could become sloppy over time, and that it sits farther from the tractor (stability, manuverability). Have you considered the JD model 7? Thanks - Mike ....

Last weekend I had a tractor with a Kelley B600 backhoe at a show. It was parked next to a JD855 with a JD8 backhoe. The Deere backhoe has smaller cylinders & much smaller cylinder shafts. The seat of the backhoe was right under the rops, so the operator either had to lean forward or lean back with the rops in front of him. I put a Kelley B750 on a jd955. To put a Deere hoe on the owner would have had to buy a special higher rops for head clearance. If you have a rops on your tractor closer may not be better. ....

Hi Mark! I have a pump for mine.I have no problem going anywhere as far as manuverability, Go with the stronger unit. I'am very happy with the woods 7500. I have dug out 20-30 decent size tree stumps, Dug out footings for a neihbors barn,And trenched for dreanage pipe.I would definitally buy another woods!!! As far as the 3pt hitch goes no problem at all!!Tighten the sway chains and it is solid. No regrets buying the whole package would'nt change anything!! Good luck Mark let me know how you make out!! ....

That is a great price. I had gotten prices from 4,700-6500 for the exact same 7500 hoe for the 790. I gave up on Woods becuase I felt someone was looing to stick me, or something wasn't right with the huge differences in quotes. So, I might consider Kelley instead. We will have to see how much Kelley dealers want to stick it to their clients. I have heard that the kelley 750 was a lot cheaper then the woods, but no sub-frame, which I don't really want a hoe without a subframe. I want to use the hoe for trenching ect.. and I am not interested in playing games setting up special each time I move a few feet forward.

Anyone know how much a Kelley 750 goes for, and does anyone other then the dealer on CTB have on??????????

Chris,
Your may want to look at a Bradco 408 hoe. The specs on this hoe come in between the Woods 7500 and 9000. I have a 408 on my JD 970 and it uses the same factory JD frame mount used for thier own JD hoe. This makes for a quick on and off and is a very clean setup. Bradco hoes are more expensive then either Woods or Kelley but are built to comerical standards. When you see one you will quickly see where the extra bucks went. Also, go to the "tractor bye net board" and check out Mark's post on "back hoe specs" for a quick, all one page, comparsion of the different hoes. Bradco is on the web at, http://scat.com ....

AM LOOKING INTO A JOHN DEERE 4600 OR 4700. I CAME ACROSS THIS WEB SITE LAST EVENING BY ACCIDENT. HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SITES LIKE THIS THAT ARE INFORMATIVE ABOUT TRACTORS AND EQUIPMENT LIKE THIS. I AM NOT A FARMER BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION. I HAVE SOME LIGHT FARM TYPE USES IN MIND, BUT FOR THE MOST PART IT WOULD BE MORE OF A UTILITY USE. THIS IS WHY I WANTED TO DO SOME COMPARISONS OF THE HOE'S. ANY INFO YOU COULD PROVIDE WOULD BE HELPFUL, AND MAYBE EVEN SOME OTHER SIMILAR INFORMATION TYPE WEB SITES. MY E-MAIL ADDRESS IS SSCHWENKE@UPELECTRIC.COM.
THANKS, SCOTT ....
