It prevents the equipment such as the blade on the bush hog from "pushing" the tractor. It will allow the blade to continue to run and slow on it's own when you stop or slow the tractor.

On tractors without the overrun clutch when you push in the clutch such as a bush hog blade would still have speed and torgue enough to push the tractor itself. Dangerous. Will put you in pond, ditch, in danger.

It may not be design just as my example but it is sort of like the way a hand ratchet works.

If your tractor was built for the USA market it should have it built in. I went to Kubota's web site and could not find it based just upon the numbers. If not you can buy the add on but watch the pto shaft length. ....

RR, no you don't need one, as Kenneth explained, it allows the PTO to keep turning without the trans. having to keep spinning too. On older tractors, if the PTO shaft was still turning you couldn't shift between forwards & reverse till it stopped because the PTO was still spinning the gears.

Your tractor has a 2 stage clutch, that is you can stop the tractor, and or reverse travel direction independantly of the PTO shaft.

In your case, with a HST, there is even less need for it since other than to start or stop the PTO, you don;t need to use the clutch at all.

Best of luck. ....

The PTO of your 3130 runs totally independent of the drive clutch. As I'm sure you know, all it takes is a flip of the cute little lever on the right side to engage the PTO clutch. Clutch in or clutch out the PTO is still running if you've got it engaged. Like everyone else said, you don't need an overun clutch.

The 3130 uses a hydraulic engaged wet clutch system to engage and operate the PTO system so the over-running clutch is not needed for attachments. ....

The drive (foot) clutch is not used at all when running your PTO. When you flip the lever the PTO clutch will engage the PTO. I usually idle the engine down before I engage the PTO and then run the RPMs up but that may not be necessary.

You might be confused about Murf's comment about a two stage clutch which other Kubotas have (or had). You don't have one, the PTO has it's own independent clutch on the 3130.

If you have the short level to engage your PTO as Dave and Art are saying, that is your clutch pedal for your PTO. On my Kubota with that set up they say to also engage it slowly as you would with a clutch pedal. It is easy to forget with the level what all is going on for me compared to the clutch pedal.

If you are new to bush hogging it will amaze you how far it can throw such as a 5 pound piece of wood or a brick or such hit just right or a broken blade. I have know of one throwing a piece of wood about 50 feet and denting a passing car. What a noisy fun but dangerous machine. ....
