Remember the story I had about hitting a Lady in her rear end while my truck NOT stopping at about 6 mph? Damm Anti lock brakes! I have done just about everything I could shy of replacing the sensors to try and figure it out. Even had the dealer look at it, they said they put in a new "code" in the computer? DAH. Of course that didnt help.
WELL
GM just sent me a letter, safety recall on my truck which is licensed in a "high corrosive area" Seems between the rotor and the sensor corrosion will build up causeing your truck NOT to be able to stop when the anti locks come on in some cases. They say they come on too often and for NO good reason (to put it in my own words).
Anyway the dealer will get my truck tomarow morning. BUT I think he lost my records of paying for the fix they done so I will not be re-imbursed by GM unless I can find the reciept? That stinks eh? At least my brakes will work, I was starting to drive like a little ole lady when ever I was on any snow covered road!

I have a friend who had a few near accidents due to the same anti-lock brake issue on his GMC 1500 truck (2000-2001ish I think?).
Great programming by the engineers at GM - even with a defective/corroded sensor - why on earth would anti-lock brakes activate at speeds less than 10-15 mph???
A couple of weeks ago I started my 2003 2500HD pickup and began to back it out of the garage - when I noticed I had no power steering. I went to apply the brakes, and I had to stand on the brake pedal to get it to stop (no power brakes either.) I checked the serpantine belt (it was fine), turn it on/off again - same thing. An hour later I decided to drive it to my heated barn to check it out. When I started it up, I had a whining noise - that went away and all was fine. It's still under warranty (15k miles) and of course the dealer could find nothing.
Just waiting for that to happen again when I'm pulling a 7000 pound trailer.

I had a similar event with my Ford F250. I was driving about 55mph and everything went dead for a second or two. No power steering. No power brakes or anti-locks. Dash lights went out. It was a loose/corroded ground cable.

I had a 1995 S10 blazer with anti-locks that went off all the time. If someone spit on the road and I braked going across it they would have gone on. To make a hard stop you had to stand on them! I did a bad thing by putting slightly larger than factory tires on it. I've had allot of cars/trucks since then and all the anti-locks have worked great. With them, you can stop faster on ice or partial icy roads. They are slower to respond in real hard braking on good roads. Learn to keep a safer distance between you and the next guy! ....

If you can not find receipt and you did not pay with cash..look back to the method you paid for receipt. Such as cancelled check or credit payment.
A few years ago had a recall with Nissan. The paperwork they required to be reimbursed was a totaly ploy. They did not accept the paid receipt by a Nissan Dealership..if they can not trust them then who can? Not me. ....

Your Dealer should be able to type in the last eight of your Vin and pull up the service history on your truck. If they have a computer, and you got a bill when you paid to have it fix, they have a Record. Tell them to do a Service History for you (providing it was done at that same dealer) and look for yourself, it should be right there, by the date and mileage that it was done and even the tech who worked on it. You do NOT need a reciept. ....

Your Master Cylinder and Sagninaw Power Steering Pump are totally seperate from each other. PS pump does run off of the serpintine belt and if it was slipping, ya! it could have been the problem, or the air in the line.
The Brakes, makes me think it may have been stuck calibars due to mositure and a cold night. Usually you have two seperate brake lines one for the front right and rear left and one for the front left and rear right, if both were bad at the same time, and you have ABS, then could have been electrical, but the hydralic should still have been there for a hard manual brake. Intersting, I would be interested to know what the final determination is.
Cars today are getting very complex..... ....

On the HD trucks you get your power brakes from your steering pump. NOT a vacuum booster. So they are related. My guess would be the check valve was stuck. ....

I have a coworker who has been going back and forth with the GM dealer for a few weeks about his antilock brakes. They had no idea what was wrong. They replaced rotors, drums, master cyl, wheel cyl. I told him it sounded like a antilock sensor problem. Sure enough, he got a notice the other day about the sensor corrosion recall, took it in, showed them the recall and they fixed it. Now hes trying to get reinbursed for some of the parts and labor they invested in their wild goose chase. ....

I can not believe how stupid I am. This board just may have saved me money again! The dealer told me that if I could not find the reciept, that he would be able to pull it up. He had it on his computer infront of him, but he said he would have to go to the main office and print it there since he was not able to print from his line. He told me to call him the next day if I could not find the reciept. I FORGOT!!!! $160 I was charged for the last work performed and I should get reimbursed. I better get on the ball and get that reciept and send it in on Monday before money runs out!

I have around 150K on my 99 now. After a few warrenty items (the same ones a couple of times) I have had NO problems (knock on wood). A few minor things that you may expect but all in all I plan to drive this guy anouther 100K with or without a new engine if she ever needs it. The brakes were a real problem with me though.

A few more feet for stopping? LOL TRY a fricken half a mile! LMAO. This is true! The day before I got the notice we had a inch or so of fresh snow. A dump truck dumped a whole load of garbage )mostly vegitable scrap like what a grocery store would throw away) I mean a WHOLE dump truck load on the highway. This spanded about 2 city blocks. The ploce had two of the worse lanes blocked off and one lane was passable. I went thru at 4:40 am and had to turn into a gas station to get my coffee. I went thru this area at about 15 mph with garbage and snow! Talk
about crapping my pants! I did not know what was infront of the officers until I was already by them and about to change lanes! WOW I was floored at how I could not stop. I went into the store and pissed and moaned to my girl there about my brakes and how I need a half mile to stop. Also told her I was paranoid to drive in snow now and that I drive like a friggin WIMP! Im getting passed up by every car in the damm county when there is snow out. Not because I dont have 4wd (I do) but because I am so afraid of not stopping! THATS HOW BAD IT WAS! They fixed it and they have not gone off again since then. Of course it only snowed one day since though? ....

Glad to see your pickup is going well (with the exception of the recall). I've been pretty lucky so far with my vehicles. My 1990 GMC S15 made it to 160k without anything major wrong with it. That was replaced with a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee (company vehicle) - I still have that - and am rather amazed at the lack of drivetrain issues at 193k (the AC has been another story).
The 2500HD is basically the replacement for the Jeep, but since the Jeep still gets me places, it's kind of a part-timer right now.

I had a 87 jeep cherokee. Straight 6, what a great engine. Went 195K. My wifes next new vehical will be anouther cherokee. We went with the mini van for obvious reasons (3 kids) and now she dont want to give them up. She has no choice though when we move. I will not be called up to "come get her" cause the snow is too bad to drive in or she is stuck in 8 inches of snow. Id feel better with her in a 4wd. The prob. is going to be getting her to SLOOOW down. I can see her now thinking she is King Kong with 4wd and then realizing it dont help you stop? Oh well, she's college educated, she will figure it out? ....
