As stated above, I do love my wife, but there are times taht push limits. Last night it was the microwave. See, the microwave is one of them over the stove types. So, hypothetically, if your wife leaves the microwave door open while you are squating down to get a pan you will seriously brain yourself when you stand up. I still have a red mark on my head from the impact point (baldness highlights head injuries). In fact, I still have a dull headache and the top is tender. I'm glad the baby isn't able to repeat words yet. She'd have gained some serious new vocabulary!

My biggest grip is the pack rat gene. I have built 2 houses and 2 kitchens over the years for my wife. The current kitchen has nearly 100 square feet of counter space with cabinets below and above. She also has a large pantry cabinet. After a few years of use every square inch of the cabinets and cupboards in full. Often much of the counter top are full of plants etc. ....

My wife is squeezing me out of a 30x60 foot basement. I had declared 1/2 the basement was mine when we moved in. Forget it. Maybe I'll move my tiny shop into the cold garage. ....

I'm sitting in "my" office in the new house. We have been here since November 21. The barn (which was going to be Man's World) is full of my wife's horses. My workshop in the basement has been pushed back to a small corner since the kids need a place to do messy crafts. The closet is long gone. I'm spending as much time as I can in the office, knowing that at any moment it can become the scapbooking room...

But hey, she never touches the tractor and always encourages me to buy more stuff that I "need" for it... ....

Oliver, I originally had an office on the first floor which was an unused bedroom. I had my desk, computer, bookshelf all set up. Then the wife wanted a single bed in there just in case. Then the laundry rack arrived. Well you can figure the rest. Now that the kids have left I moved my office upstairs. My wife argues with me on how I want my office set up! I think I lost control, lets say 25 years ago, as of next weekend!! ....

Peters, I worry about that gene. My mom-in-law has that gene very bad. So I live in constant fear of it being passed down.

My wife isn't too bad overall. Except she can't throw away the empty cereal boxes or empty milk jugs. I can't say why. They just sit on the limited counter space until I toss them.

My head still hurts from the microwave incident and I'm on day 3. ....

I think the trick, or at least the trick that has worked for me, is to just set hard boundary lines. Not just physical ones either.

I'm not "allowed" to come into the house with outdoor foot wear on since she cleans not me, fairplay, she's not allowed to use my office, since I earn the bucks not her, etc.

When she declared that I was not to use 'her' garage for 'my' stuff, that's Ok, I took all of 'her' gardening stuff out of 'my' shop and put it in 'her' garage. It's full now, so full she can barely get her Land Rover in it.

The toilet tissue thing she still has problems with though. I did however make some progress when I put one of those magnetic 'child safety' locks on the cabinet in 'my' bathroom, she now remembers to refill the roll in 'her' bathroom. Especially after I was 'unable to hear her' from the office a few times when she issued commands from the throne after finding she was a little shy of paperwork. ;-}

Best of luck. ....

I am uncertain as to the logic for keeping the paper miles from use site. It is a bit like having the barn for the tractor at the other end of the property a half mile from the house.
I built a large closet in lower bathroom 4'x3' with full shelves, good sized vanity with larger lower drawer and she decides to store it in the hall closet. Please explain!! I am confused.

I too agree with the "Pack Rat" gene. My wife hates to throw things out. I suppose I'm guilty too but not nearly as bad. (You just can't throw out a good piece of wood or old work boots.) Also, she began doing artificial flower arrangements a few years ago. She does a very nice job but there's arrangements and materials all over the house. I had to put pull down steps into the attic to try to make some room. I have a two car garage with attached shop that was built two years ago. She had wanted to start putting them in there but I wouldn't go along with it, hence the attic stairway. We have enough canned goods here for about a year. If, however, WW III should start; all of you and your families are invited to my Mother-in-law's. She has enough canned goods to last quite some time. That's where the gene came from. ....

I read everyone's comments about the paper issue and I smiled. We operate on a two level paper distribution system in our house. The primary level is the main storage area in a closet in a spare room. Then we have the staging area which is a shelf in one bathroom and the vanity in the other. We don't always keep the staging area stocked, but it's at least 95% effective. Sometimes she doesn't restock the staging area and that's when there are problems. I'm usually the one doing the resupply. But at least she goes along with the staging area. ....

Archeologists search for Pack Rat middens, which are thousands of years old to determine what the North American landscape was like in prehistoric times. These middens are the stuff that the rat collected and then forgot where they put it. See the connection, enough said.

I guess I'm lucky. Mine doesn't have the Pack Rat Gene. She would throw me away if I stood still long enough. She does how ever have the I can't stop long enough to buy fuel gene. She will ride on empty until the last possible minute for stopping to buy fuel. An then it's usually only 20 BUCKS. ....

You know, 2 weeks ago, I would have agreed with you but.....
a week ago this past Friday, the 28th, my wife of 3 years died suddenly. One minute she was fine, the next she passed out. They said her main artery blocked off. They weren't able to revive her.
Right now, I'd love to be able to tell she could leave the door open whenever she wants or lay stuff where ever she wants but will never be able to do so again.
You never know what will happen in the next minute and if you can, go give her a big hug and tell her how much you love her while you still have the opportunity!
Sorry for going on - just miss my wife like crazy!!! ....

Mike, my condolances as well.

Your point is well taken and it's why I don't get upset about the empty cereal boxes or milk cartons. I just dispose of them myself. It's not worth getting upset over. Life is too short to get upset of the little things.

Now if she had wrecked the tractor or hurt the dog, that would be another issue. ....

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference".
I think the gene falls into the former not the latter. You need to love your wife the way God made her. Sorry to here of your loss. I have been married about 20 years and certainly am not prepared for that day.

Concerning worrying about things you can not change. Life is hard and then you die, why make it harder?

My minister once used a phrase something like this: If you don't think your wife is the greatest woman alive, treat her like she is anyways. It won't take long until you really think she is. (The way you treat her directly relates to how she treats you...and two people that love and respect each other equals a great marriage.) I really am blessed...sure there are little things, but I couldn't find a better wife, mother for my child, and fun person to be around if I tried. ....

It was really funny reading this post until I hit Mike's. Even what we as man think is a long life, it is only a vapor. You are only able to enjoy this life when you have prepared to leave it.

Why do all of us complain about our spouses (wife for me), cause we love them. Someone who means nothing to you may irrate you in traffic or such but that is so fleeting. I fully believe you miss a person in direct relationship to how much they meant to you.

As to the tissue, give or buy a very pretty holder for tissue to match each bathroom. Fill it once and guess what, that often works.

I must ask Iowafun, now just why were you squated down looking for a pot anyhow?

As to keeping the gorilla glue and tisse paper seperate, makes good sense to me.

I like good humor, it is by far better here than the Comedy Channel. Bet you guys have better "you might be a redneck" stories than Jeff F every thought of. Don't imagine he reads here do you?

Mike, thank you for sharing your loss. No doubt it open more than our eyes, but our hearts too. Sorry it happen. God Bless.

kt
