Here's a new eBaby "phishing" scam, where scammers try to harvest your name and password so they can hijack your eBay account.

In this scam you receive an email that looks like it's from eBay that says an auction you bid on was cancelled. This may be an auction you bid on and may have even won. If you click the supplied link to see which auction was cancelled you are presented with an eBay login. However, the link url does not begin with https://www.ebay and it is NOT an eBay email. Instead it is a scammer site where they will record your ebay userid and password and then forward you to the auction that probably was NOT actually cancelled.

I'm pretty careful and almost got bit by this one. I did click the link and give my ebay userid and password, but realized when the auction was not cancelled that it was a scam and changed my password before any damage was done.

These scammers need to be ground up and used for gopher bait.

My boss got a similar one yesterday. It claimed to be from somebody that didn't get an item that they paid for; to reply to them it took you to the fake ebay site to log in. He was lucky and couldn't remember his ebay password or it would have worked on him. When he told me all this I thought it sounded fishy, when I checked out the e-mail he got the fake site was already down.

They would use the username/pw info to post fake auctions.

Be careful,
Bill ....

Yeah, this one got me, I noticed it when after I logged in, it took me back to the log in which was odd, so I immediately changed my password so no damage. If anything seems odd or fishy, just assume it is! I get ones telling me someone has added a new email to my paypal account, that will scare you, but is it all BS. Always log into the website from your browser, NOT from an email, even if you are SURE it is from who you think it is. I do a lot of business on the internet and ebay, it is full of scammers but after a while you get to recognize them right away.

I buy and sell on EBay and your right after a while I can spot the fake e-mails in a flash. I foward them to EBay and PayPal if they are a new twist on the standard scam. They fake e-mails even have a different look to them like fake money!
