My dad gave me his old 1985 F-250 with a 6.9 for use as a farm truck (it is rusting pretty fast!). He never had an owner's manual, and I want to put the correct weight oil in it. He said something about "50 weight", but I think he's way off base. I won't be putting more than a few hundred miles per year on it, and it will be outside. It does not have an engine heater...but I might get a dipstick heater. What oil should I run for general use? The engine only has 125K on it.

The synthetic Rotella is inexpensive and easy to find at Walmart. I have been running it again lately. I like the Delo for the regular mineral blend at least out west as it has better burn characteristics in my Dodge truck.
With the mineral oils you need to be aware that blends will reflect the refinery and the source for the base stocks. This can vary from region to region although the brand is the same. ....
