On the KK RFM I have there is a place to grease each of the spindles. How do I know when there's enough grease? On everything else I grease, I can start to see grease get squeezed out, telling me I've put enough on.

Usually there is a hole in the top cover directly above each spindle shaft, if you look down that hole you will see a grease zerk fitting in the top of each shaft.
Unless you flip the mower up on end there is no where you will see grease coming out.
Either merely give each shaft a couple of shots, or listen for the sound of air escaping as you pump in the grease, when the sound stops the grease cavity is full.
Best of luck. ....

I grease the mower spindles on my 4410 MMM and my F525 just about everytime prior to use. I do as Murf mentioned and listen for the barely perceptible crackling sound of the grease coming out the vent hole and stop. Usually just a few pumps. I realize I am probably greasing more than needed but grease is cheap and great insurance for longevity. ....

I have raised the mower deck and looked underneath (very bad practice, I know!) and didn't see any grease. Should I? The mower is new and was shipped dry; is it possible that the cavity is really big and there's not enough grease in it yet? A few hours ago I put 30 squirts in each fitting; nothing came out. ....

I find it hard to believe the cavity would hold more than 4 or 5 squirts, 10 if it was bone dry.
If you hit it with 30 squirts of grease I would pull the cover of the belt area and look for a half a tube of grease laying on the deck......
Best of luck. ....

I wish I had thought of taking the cover off before sqiurting so much grease; I'll go back out to the new house after the kids go to bed and see if that is where the grease ended up.
I'll let you know... ....

All mower deck spindles are not created the same and different ones don't require much grease at all or you will blow out the seals. Some normally more a commercial grade will have special vents to allow the extra grease to come out without blowing the seals. Some units require about 50 pumps to fill the chamber before you will get proper lubrication of the top bearing. What happens if under greased you could have problems with it going dry as the heat warms the grease it drops to cover the bottom bearing and will not give the upper bearing any lubrication. They are all different and there is no one size fits all here! ....

If you over greese it on some mowers the mower belt rides in greese.
This happened on my bolens mower .
Belt was so satured with greese I had to replace the belt with with a new one.
A well greesed belt does a good job of slipping.Greese and oil can cause the belt to become hard and glazed and slip. ....
