I am looking for a machine to chop up and spread bails of hay much like a big wood chipper. I have seen some being used and they were small enough to tow behind a 4 wheeler or tractor. The hay was carried on another trailer. It would make it easier to spread hay on woods roads or multi use trails.

What you see on the highways is expensive. We have one that will throw hay 50+ feet, BUT that depends on the wind and the feed rate.
Farmers use a bedding chopper. It's a lot smaller but it chops up the bales and has a blower. These will blow hay 10'. I see them at auctions smoetimes for as little as $100, they might need some work. ....
