Would it be advisable to spend the $145 to buy a bolt-on cutting edge from NH since what I normally dig is riddled with 3" rocks? Is there a cheaper yet comparable way to go to save the bucket?

I purchased the heavy duty bucket when I bought my 33D and it had the removable cutting edge. I never really used the bucket much without a tootbar on it as digging with only the cutting edge just didn't get it for me. ....

I put the bolt on edge on my bucket. I also dig in a lot of rocks and this keeps the leading edge wear on the bucket at a very low level. It is reversible also, so when it comes with a second life.
You could also use hard surfacing rod with a welder to reinforce the leading edge and bottom of the bucket lip and it will improve the wear, but I think that the bolt on is the way to go. ....

I had one made at an implement dealer for $70.00. It is 1/2" thick, 6" wide and reversable. I live in Arizona with the hardest dirt and rocks around and do not have any problems digging. I can not use a tooth bar because I do a lot of finish work with the bucket and box blade. It is best to install a cutting edge when the bucket is new so it has a flat surface of which to mount. ....

I have not had a problem so far. If I'm going to dig in virgin caliche that is very hard, I make a pass first with the scrifiers all the way down. ....

I have a lot of colichi where I live and I break it up with a sub-soiler before working on it with the loader. But, I can go through it with my backhoe. With the hoe, it breaks up into big rock-like chunks. With the loader, it is hard to get a bite in colichi but the sub-soiler disturbs the layers and the bucket will work. ....
