I have a JD 4110 and would like to buy a box blade but have a question. I have two types of soil. At a river camp soft top soil and roots. At home hard Clay. Will the tractor I have be strong enough to cut and level clay. Hard packed.

Roger, I don't have a whole lot of experience so don't go on my word alone, but I would guess if you work it with some soil moisture you'd be OK. I just did an area by my place yesterday that's pretty clayey. It had drained for a few days but had just about the right amount of moisture in it to cooperate. ....

Rodger, I have a TC33D [33hp] with a Woods box blade. Some things I have learned about using a box blade are - having rear hydraulic top link makes all the difference in the world on ease of usage, having a box blade a little wider than your rear tires is helpful, setting the depth of your scarifiers makes a difference, having some kind of extra weight for the rear wheels [ I have wheel weights] helps with traction especially in my case as I have R-4's. Once you learn the nuances of how much bite is enough you'll believe that a box blade is one of the greatest discoveries since sliced white bread. ....

Roger; My experience has been to set the teeth shallow to start with, then a bit deeper till your tractor tells you you're deep enough. Seems to work best to scarify it first then pull the soil with the teeth retracted. Frank. ....
