OK, we've taken the 3-pt PHD off the tractor for the first time since it arrived. So now what do I do with it? Just leaving it on the ground doesn't seem right, and I don't look forward to trying to lift that sucker up to re-attach it.
I thought about just augering it in a foot and leaving it standing, but then I'm not sure I'd be able to get it "un-augered". My next thought was to suspend it from the barn rafters on a pulley, but I'm not so keen to have such a heavy object just waiting to fall on someone. Any other ideas? Maybe a rack or stand? Bonus points if it makes re-attachment easier.
Thx.
Neal

Mark (DRankin here) posted a picture once of his solution. He bought a spare hand truck and strapped the phd to it in an upright position. Seemed like a good solution, takes little floorspace and you can roll it right back to reinstall it. ....

Thanks for that tip. I am in the process of building home made skids with heavy duty wheels/casters. Infact I just finished my first one tonight. It is 4' by 7'. I only need 3 of these for the tiller, box blade and one just a bit larger for the disk. I am going to try my car dollies on my 6' brush cutter (I am hoping they will work for moveing that pig around so I dont have to make a mega skid) The first skid I built looks good and I know it will work fine. I can't wait to try it out. This is going to make my garage look like a organized shop not to mention it will take out the danger of knocking down a wall with the fel trying to manuver gear into a storage position.
I was looking at my post hole digger myself and wondering what I should do about that. The dolly deal sounds interesting. If a standard one will not sufficently support (safely) the digger in a upright position I will take the same principle and make one.
I made a executive decision last time I was at my place. The old back blade and the plow went outside. I figured they have been outside for about 15-20 years so what would be the difference? They look like hell anyway.
Thanks for some good idea's. ....

If you have a shed hook a hand winch to the roof supports. then hook it on there and hoist it up. now you can drive right under it keep it out of the way.good luck.

One of the PHD manufacturers, I believe it's Woods, makes a nifty stand.
It's just a large V-shapped tube frame, the apex (point) of the V attaches to the gear box and the 'legs' then come forwards and down towards the ground near the wheels. At the point where the 'legs' pass under the lower links of the 3pth, there are 'cups' or 'saddles' on top of the 'legs'. You connect the V to the gear box with a couple of big threaded knobs, then just lower the PHD until the lower links touch the cups on the legs, unhitch and you're done. It basically forms the PHD into a rigid tripod.
It doesn't allow you to move the unit around after it's set down, but it is solid as a rock and at the exact spot needed to re-hitch it to the tractor, also no part of the PHD except the tip of the auger is sitting on the ground when it's parked either.
Best of luck. ....
