Have been shopping for some time for a new tractor. Finally have it down between a AGCO 4WD Model GT55 (61 engine, 53 pto) and a New Holland 4WD Nodel TN70DA (70 engine, 57 pto).

The AGCO is several thousand dollars cheaper than the New Holland and seems to have the same features and meets my needs. My question is - (a) which tractor is better overall and (b) is $31000 a reasonable price for the AGCO with cab, loader and 72" bucket???

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since you are looking at the AGCO line of tractors; have you looked at AGCO's Challenger line of machines in their MT300B series? The MT300B series I believe uses the Perkins 3 cylinder 1103 diesel and the tractor I believe is made by Caterpillar for AGCO. Not sure if these are in the same price range as the AGCO you are looking at but might be worth a look. As is the Massey Ferguson line which is also another brand line sold under AGCO. The Massey Ferguson 3625 or 563 would be in this hp range. ....

All of AGCO brands of tractors mentioned are built Italy.

The AGCO GT-series is built by Same-Deutz Fahr, and has a Same engine.

The Challenger MT300B series and MF 3600 series are built by Agritalia. (Agritalia builds tractors for John Deere, Claas/Renault, Case IH, Valtra as well as their own Carraro brand). The MT300B does not have a Cat engine, either. They don't advertise a brand name, and I couldn't find one last week when I was looking at one. The 3600-series has SisuDiesel engines.

FYI, Caterpillar does not build ANY of the Challenger products for AGCO as AGCO bought the designs and manufacturing processes. Cat does supply the engines, licenses the Challenger name and Cat logo, and supplies some parts. ....
