Hello. I would like to ask for anyone's input/comments on a used JD #7 backhoe I am looking at buying. I currently have a '93 JD 755 and the backhoe comes complete with the subframe kit (I am familiar with all the past discussions about subframe vs. 3pt mount and have opted to go the subframe route.) The backhoe itself is about 10 years old, but has been used very, very little. According to the current (original) owner, he bought it new, used it once to dig a ditch and parked it in the barn where it has sat since. It's still got the "sold" tag attached to the arm from the original dealer. Except for being very dirty for sitting for so long, it appears to be in very good shape (pins tight, no visible cracks, no rust pitting on the cylinders, etc.) It comes with a 19" bucket. Asking price is $2700 w/subframe. Is this a fair price?? Are there any other things that I should look for and or check out before I make the purchase. Any comments/opinions/help would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

I think you've found a deal. I used to have that same backhoe on a 650, and boy was it a great implement. Easy to put on and take off, and it's a diggin son-of -a-gun. ....

If that #7 is practically new, as you say and it is just a little dirty for 2700 - run, don't walk, to close that deal. I recently purchased a very well used one for 3750 which required work (fortunately, I purchased it from a reputable dealer and he ate some alot of it. Check for leaks at the hoses, the valves and the cylinders. Check particularly the tie rod seals on the side swing cylinders since a 10 year old machine has the older design cylinders (as did mine). ....

That seems to be a very good deal. A gentelman in my area is selling his #7 and it has been used and he's asking $4000. The previous poster was right, RUN don't walk.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I am now the proud new owner of a used JD 7 backhoe. Picked it up on Sunday. Based on all your comments, I would have been a fool not to buy it. Except for some required cleanup, it seems to work great. BTW, the hoe was located in Southern Mid-Michigan, near the Ohio border. Can't wait till Spring.....Thanks again!!!! ....
