Looking for all your help on ideas to finish off the front of my pole building. Specifically the front entrance area. I built this barn myself. It ended up to be 30x48 with a 12x42 lean to. 14 foot sidewalls.The 4x12 area in front has the roof over it, with an overhead into the lean to area and a entry door into the 30x48. Rather than finishing that area with the red steel barn siding, was considering using stone or wood somehow. Really interested in how you all may have added individual touches to make your barn your "own". Thanks in advance for any help!

Well, lets see. An amish farmer had use some local field
stone, rather than the cultured stone found in the stores. Put that about 4 feet up and then used t&g cedar attached vertical above that. Looked great. A nice touch could be for the cement in the 4x12 area may be to try the exposed aggregate finish. Or lay cobblestone or brick like is seen on some of the old city streets. Drive around the country and borrow some ideas. Theres nothing like some of the old dutch and german barns still standing. ....

Throw a few deer skulls on her and maybe a skunk tail or two and call her finished! LOL. As I get older I see
"low maintanence" as a priority over astetics. What ever you do to it keep in mind the dust or dirt that will be keeping you buisy. Make it smooth and clean so "clean up"
will be easy. ....

Brokenarrow, LOL!! That kind of "decorating" might get you an award in Rusk or Sawyer County, but it might be a little backward for Michigan.
I agree with your other point. The best building maintenance is no maintenance at all.

For the 4 x 12 section under a roof you could put some larger field stone on a wall about 3 to 4 feet up. The remainder you could put some siding that is recycled plastic that looks like cedar shakes. Or you could also do a split (half) log look and have the support posts made from logs. You could get a chain saw artist over and doctor up the posts for an Indian totem pole look with eagles or bears. If you want any silhouettes on this wall section of wildlife, etc., tell me what you like. I can get them waterjet cut. We can do up to 4' x 8' at the shop. ....

I have been out tonight looking at project. Will do the field stone and ceder shake. Love the totem pole idea. Thought about an old fashioned type red and white candycane pole type of upright. Will think more about a totem pole idea. Please explain more on the silhouette waterjet thing. sounds interesting. Agree simple is best. I am focused on projects that are done once, and no upkeep. Simply put, rethink landscaping projects. I've created a "monster" in all the rock gardens and flower gardens. Love to create them, but tough to keep them maintained. ....
