Hi!

What minimi size (hp, weight) do I need to remove some 3-4 inches of snow with plow? Which speed do you think the same suggested tractor can remove 12 inches of snow (a bit heavy snow and maybe a littlebit frozen) with blower? The unit must pass a 55 inch gate on my property, both with blower and plow.

Best regards!
Erik, Sweden

Hi Brokenarrow!

Thankyou for your answer, but a skidsteer is not an option for me. Can I ask you to read my question under "size needed"? I have written a half novel there...

Thanks!
Erik, Sweden ....

Commodore
I just read your post (the long one) I commend you on your english, that must of been hard to complete. Good job! I think your 55" of width is a problem. The tasks you are asking from the machine will require a larger framed machine than 55" wide. ....

Hi! Thanks for the praise, but I think we commonly have rather good education in english in Sweden, so my english should be better really, than what it is.

I have read posts about people driving their BX´s through 15-20 inches of snow with their blowers, so I may have caused some misunderstandning in my question, as you say I would need a larger machine than what can pass my gate.

I asked
1. for how small tractor can handle 3-4 inch of snow.
2. the tractor you answer above, how fast can I go WITH A BLOWER on the same one, instead of plow, in some 12 inch of snow?

With a small tractor it´ll take som time, that´s right. But ok, 2 or 3 passes on the driveway, I must count on spending that.

Any answer doing that I can hope afford a CUT? :)

Thanks!
Erik ....

The specs on a John Deere 4210,4310 and 4410 say that it is 53" wide so they would fit through the gate. However with such little clearance, you will most likely hit the gate at some point. Plus the attachments that fit those tractors would be to wide.
I think a JD 4115 ,49" wide)would do everything you are talking about. It is a little small so you wouldn't get the excavating work done in record time but you can get it done. The snow will not be a problem with either a blower or a blade.
Your biggest issue would be service or do you have JD dealers there? ....

I have a JD 4310, which I would recommend, but the size may be a problem with your gate. Can you easily enlarge your gate? ....

I am probably seeking solutions that does not exist, but I am also aware of that. The problem is not the size of the gate. It is not easy to enlarge it, but still, it is not the main thing. I want a combination of very useful toys that can handle all things, let go some of them a bit lowpowered... The backhoe thing is that. If it takes a bit of time, no problem. The bigger stones will be left. The stones too big for the tractor, can be dug down a bit. The footprint of a commercial TLB or excavator is not an option in that part of the acrage, because of an earthheatconverter to the house.

Probably a better solution is to buy a good riding mower and a 30-40 years old utility tractor with loader, but that is not what I want. I read a thread about a guy here at tractorpoint that was also on the same track. Maybe not so much play for him as for me. But I want all those funny toys to have a pleasant time mowing, digging, moving dirt, moving snow and so on, since most of it is a must to be done. And for the bushes and trees the tractor of course has to be small, otherwise an 8520 would be completely OK... :)

I saw a JD 4115 for sale here last summer, one year old, around 50 hours of use. It was told they had had it while they builded a house. A frontblade and a toolcarryboard on 3ph was all in the deal, maybe they had sold more implements aside. Asked price? 285.000 SEK. I dont remember the rate at that time (I think around 8.50), but today with around 6.80 would that be well over 40.000$. Do you see my interest going over the ocean to buy? I will have a pleasant journey as a bonus.

A friend of mine has bought a lot of things to his chevy trucks (´50s and ´60s) in US and recieved it sometimes in just a few days with airfreight. So until now I have been in some ignorance that parts will not be a problem. But of course I must look through that.

I apriciate your thoughts! So far 4115 seems to be the best green solution. What price difference makes 4110 to 4115? And what price range would tractor with sufficient hydraulics, blower, blade, MMM, loader, hoe be?

Erik ....
