How correctly restored are they? The Farmalls always seemed a little redder to me.

Any good paint shop or auto paint dealer will help you out here. There are several quality brands and all will do the job. The biggest mistake amatures make is the mixing of reducers and hardners. I just dump in some of this and some of that.

If you are just gonna brush it on, rustoleum works ok.

I would not buy paint again from tractor supply even with the hardners the paint faded very quickly on my implements that sit out.

If I was doing a very correct restoration it would go to a paint shop. Those guys know lots of tricks. ....

I researched Farmall paint colors when I was restoring my '47 Farmall A. From what I recall, the WWII era tractors used various pigments as determined by availability. In other words, it is just about impossible to paint the '47 the same color it was from the factory. I believe the '40's tractors were a darker red than the IH red that is sold today. For my project, I decided that I like the brighter red, and painted the A with Western Automotive industrial IH Red and added some hardener for shine. (See my pictures #1,6,7 &8) Many of the folks I've met came to the same conclusions and painted their tractors a shade of red that they like; sometimes using automotive colors (Viper red, etc).

If you are concerned about keeping it as original as possible, try YTMag.com and ask questions on the Farmall forum.

Good luck,
Bill ....

It's been several years since I've had a Farmall painted, but the man who did the painting allways insisted on having the paint and the primer from CaseIH. For some reason he did'nt like auto store paint. Some of the IH impliments that were used on the old Farmall Letter series (C's, H's, M's etc.) had part of the componets painted blue. The last time I bought paint from CaseIH the blue was no longer available, but I was told Big A, or NAPA had the correct formula. Frank. ....

The old red had lead in much the same as all older paints. There is just one paint for both units from Case-IH at this time. ....
