It's been a while since I last posted here. I've been busy building my house (getting close to drywall). But we're getting hammered with snow today.
So I took my first afternoon doing snow mitigation (granted, it was cold for here (~20) and blowing hard, which made it pretty unpleasant. I used the FEL, and thought about hooking up the box blade (to at least give me another pass) but removing the backhoe and getting the 3ph setup in the weather wasn't much fun in the wind.
I have an 86 diesel ford F250 HD that I will never ever be allowed to sell (my wife brought it with her to our marriage!) and we keep it running as our farm truck. With the new place, we have ~1600 feet of driveway, and based on today and taking a cue from some here, I'm thinking of buying a plow for it, so I can have a heater and a radio. :)
Alternativly, I might buy a back blade I can angle to drag these out, a neighbor down the road does this. The snow always melts off in a week or two (from the sides) so I don't think I need a blower.
Suggestions on a pickup plow that has good bang for the buck and skid shoes (for a long gravel driveway). Or should I reconsider using the 4330 and a back blade? It's fun, but it does get cold on a long driveway.
Thanks,
John

Best bang for the buck? Winter Wolf/Snow Bear. The link is for pictures..... Lowe's and Costco sell this plow for about $1000....
I have used this plow in Alaska and found it entirely satisfactory. ....

I would tell you get the plow for sure I have a tractor/FEL and blower. They are fun the first snow of the year but then it gets old real quick. I also have an old blazer/Plow it is much quicker, warmer and easier than a tractor. Good Luck. ....

I would go with DRankin's Idea. If the snow melts often through out the winter I wouldn't spend 2 to 4 thousand on a HD plow and putting a blade on the rear of the tractor is a Pain In The Neck:)

I'll sure have to agree with being in a nice warm cab. There are lots of good plows made, I bought a Wastern with the angling kit mainly because there is a good dealer within five miles. It almost makes plowing snow fun. I usually start out long before dawn to plow out some folks who have to get to work. I never have charged anyone for plowing but somehow warm cookies show up in a day or two. Frank. ....

I would go with a truck/plow. Ever consider going with a power V-plow? There are the best thing since sliced bread. I can pile snow twice as high as the truck, and move as much as 3 yards or more of snow at a time. I have a 8'-6" one made by BOSS in Michigan, there are many other mfg. now. ....
