My Father was called back to his maker today, Dad was 95 living all but the last few months with robust health. He probably saw more change in his lifetime than any generation before him. He and his eleven brothers and sisters lived thru the great depression, dust bowl, watched their widdowed mother lose the farm in the deperssion. He taught me the value of honesty, hard work, frugality, and the ability to make something usefull out of almost nothing. I and my family will miss him of course, but God put him on this earth to do a job, he did it well and now has gone home to rest, we'll carry his values on from here. Only thing I never understood about Dad is how a man so conservative could bave been such a staunch Democrat. Frank.

That is so hard. Every time I hear of someone losing their father it brings back memories of when I lost mine. You were obviously blessed to have a father who was a role model and that must be a comfort. ....

I'm sorry to hear of your loss Frank. Your description of him as your teacher is telling. How better to be remembered but as someone who lived his life passing his knowledge to his children.

God bless, Frank, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

It's tough, but we all seem to make it somehow, and as you say, friends and family helps.

The best tribute you could have given was turning out the way you did.

Be thankfull you had such a great teacher, as I 'm sure he was for having such a great student.

Ted. ....

Frank, very sorry to hear about your Dad. Value his memory and the time you had with him. At 95 he had a good long run in this world........one we all hope to have. Sounds to me like he went out "with his boots on" and you can't do much better than that. God bless and rest his soul. ....

There are teachers everywhere, its up to us to take the time and learn from them. I am glad to hear you did. In some ways this completes the cycle and means that your Dad can pass on knowing he completed his bit and can go free to learn from his maker. I hope we can all follow in his footsteps. Sorry for your loss. ....

Frank:

My sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your father. From what you said, it sounded like he was just like my father who I lost several years ago. A hard working, conservate, Iowa farmer, and yes, an FDR New Deal democrat. I think all of those farmers who went thru the great depression and lose land were democrats after that.

rman476; Your thoughts are much apreciated. It's been a bit over a month now and things are getting easier, our loss was an expected part of life, but you're still never ready. We were able to handle our loss in a planned peacefull manner unlike the victims and familys of the terrible disaster in the tidal wave, that would be more overwhelming than I can even imagine. Thanks again. Frank and Lucile. ....
