I purchased my Cub Cadet 6284 a couple of years ago. Unknown to me at the time, the hydrostatic dip stick cable was broke. I have the cap and about 2” of the cable. The level marker and full length are gone.

Can some one take a measurement of their dipstick so that I could make one to measure the level?

A photo of the dip stick next to a measuring tape or the dimensions should work.

I make this request as the part is not available and I was not able to obtain the dimensions from Cub Cadet directly.

If no one replies I think you could improvise by measuring the oil you drain from an oil change. Then add that amount back.

You could make a Test only dip stick from something like a solid copper wire with electric tape as the stopper.

When you know how long it should be you could buy a universal dipstick at an auto store for under 10 bucks and cut to the right length. But it would only be for measurement as it probably will fit the one on your tractor. ....

I had thought about that. And I am kind of doing this with my mocked up dipstick, basically exactly as you describe.

But I am concern, if the current level is too high or low. Also, if I use the refill with the factory amount, does the FEL hydraulics require additional fluid.

So I thought I would ask a fellow owner if they had time to take a measurement. ....

I hear what you are saying.

You could put the loader in position so that all pistons are retracted, turn engine off release pressure in Control, and disconnect the quick connects from the loader, now whatever you drain can be from the tractor only. Measure and put same amount in.

Flaw with that is the last time I did hydro fluid it went allover the place :-( so measuring no so good.

Best of luck . ....

STUDIODTK5, I will soon own a 2005 Cub Cadet #6284 from a owner that is selling his. If you still need to get the "dip stick" measurement, I will be more than helpful to send it to you.
That is, if this 6284 has the dipstick in the Perkins 3 cyl. CAT engine.

That would be great. The measurement I need is the hydrostatic dip stick, not the engine. It is located on the rear of the tractor just above the pto. ....

Thanks for the quick reply, StudioDTK5.
When I get the 6284 Cub, I will make the measurement and make a photo with a ruler to show how the dipstick is shown.

BTW: How is your 6284 doing...working that is. I've read many messages on different forums how Cub Cadet made many mistakes manufacturing these compact tractors, and also, didn't make many reserve parts for those owners. The one I'm buying appears to be in great condition with 812 loader and the Sundstrand hydraulic transmission, plus the PTO 3 point hitch assembly. ....

If the bore is large enough I would highly recommend you stick a bore scope down the hole and see if the other half is still down there.

If it is and you stick a second one in you could move the broken half into an 'undesirable location' (read "bad place") and cause all sorts of issues and spendy damage.

Best of luck. ....

I had a few things to get through when I first bought it but it has been good since.

The front end had some leaks at the drop down axles. The dealer repaired fine. Did find out the correct seals are no longer available.

I had starting issues cold. Added a block heater. Main cause was a weak starter. I had that rebuilt, but was still having issues. Bought a new one and it was fine.

I have issues with the brake pedal returning. The dealer had that fixed for me. It has started doing it again. I think it was just in the linkage, but I haven t investigated it myself yet.

My tractor came with the front blade. I wanted a loader. I found the 812 no longer available. I found that Westendorf was the only ones that will make one for that tractor. I purchased the Westendorf loader. I switch back and forth between blade and loader. Depending on season.

I have the mid mount mower. That had stuck wheels. I had to find parts for that as Cub no longer had the parts.

All in all this is a good tractor for me. I don t use it hard or a lot. It has performed well for me.

No regrets yet ! ....

So I finally got this repaired. The dipstick I used is a bit stiff, so I may redo this.

Thanks for the help BeenThere. ....
