Hello all I have a 2002 MF 451 I bought off a guy who was hurting and needed some cash, normally I wouldn't buy something that is broke but considering his situation and the cheap cost I bought it. Long story short the tractor cranks and runs great but it has some hydraulic issues with the 3pt lift. When tractor is at idol the lift raises fine but anytime you give it some gas the lift drops to the ground (nothing is attached to tractor), has anyone heard or seen this? Im going to change all filters and fluids tomorrow but Im thinking there might be more to it than filter considering it lifts fine at idol but drops when I give it some gas.

I would suggest looking for a pin hole with the hydraulic suction pulling air in. or a suction hose that is collapsing flat and not allowing any fluid to the pump.
Also check the depth control, it may be kicking in when you idle up. Depth control will push down on the 3 point.
Does the lift have power when lifting at idle? ....

Thanks I will do that tomorrow. Yes at idol the lift raises fine but drops when you give it a little throttle. I hooked up an hydraulic third arm tonight and it worked flawlessly. ....

it sounds to me like the draft control is engaged.
If you have 2 levers, one is for the lift, the second is for draft. You just may be using the wrong lever. I might be wrong on this.
Try to find an owners manual. ....

Well after further looking at the fluid it appeared that the previous owner put gear oil in the hydraulics instead of hydro fluid, we flushed the system and changed the filter and the tractor works as good as new! We still plan on flushing the system again next week just to be sure but it appears the problem is solved. Now I just have to find some ag tires and wheels and get these big wide turf tires off of it. ....
