I have a 1990 B6200 and paid $5000 here in NE Ohio. It has 4WD, 60" MMM and had a new battery. Overall the tractor was nearly perfect. It had 800 hours, but most of them from mowing which is not hard on the machine. Your price seems at least $1500 high.

I've been away from the forum for some time, but was intrigued by this question as I went through the same exact decision process about a year ago. I would buy Japanese. Period. For example, the older Kubota B series tractors, late 80's early 90's, can be purchased used in good condition with mmm or rmm for about $5000. That gives you 4WD, a solid diesel engine, and a tractor with an excellent support network. Frankly, the decision is easy!

I have a B6200 with 60" mmm. I would like to raise the height of the mower deck so it rides higher in the full "up" position. It seems the only way to do this is the linkage arm between rear end of tractor and deck. This linkage arm is currently adjusted to length recommended in the manual, so I hesitate to shorten it. Am I missing something?<br>

My B6200, similar to B6100, is about 15hp at the engine. PTO hp is about 12-13. I think the B7200 is around 17hp, so the 7100 might be the same. I run a 60" mid-mount mower with my 6200 and the tractor has no power related problems, even with very high wet grass.

I was in the same boat a while back. I have 3 acres with the same type of work that you need done. In my opinion, todays "garden tractors" are not up to tilling unless you spend around $5K. Tilling is tough on a tractor-I own a 1972 Bolens large frame garden tractor, a true beast, and it barely operated the tiller. it's not so much horsepower as it is frame size, structural rigidity and tractor weight. For around $6K you can easily find a nice older Kubota B series tractor with 60" mmm. Then add a tiller for about $1k and you have a work ready rig that will run rings around a "garden tractor". I looked at the Cub 3000 series, and while they are nice, you have to spend $5K to get a heavy one. For that money, go with a used Kubota and get 4WD, and a heavier machine with enough teeth to get your work done.

My 2 cents,

I had both......In my opinion, for mowing,tiling and some blade work hydro is the way to go. I sold my Bolens Garden Tractor (hydro) for a kubota compact (gear) and while I moved up in tractor capabilities and performance, I dearly miss the hydo tranny of the Bolens, especially when mowing. My next tractor will absolutely be a hydro, even if I have to sacrafice other features to ba able to afford it.

Is it hydro or gear? Is it original owner with records? How about tires, ag. or turf? These things and many more enter into the equation. The hours are really low for that model. If the meter is accurate, I would assume the tractor to be a cream puff assuming good care. Remember, tilling hours are harder on a tractor than mowing hours, so thats something to think about. A rear 3pt tiller can run between $900 and $1800 new, depending on brand name,width,slip clutch or shear pin. The older X200 Kubotas in that HP range sell between $4k and $7k depending on accessories and features. I will go out on a limb and say if it's excellent condition as hours should indicate, that machine will sell for between $7K and $9K depending on features. Some guys on this board will also tell you that geography plays into the equation. But I'll stick to that range of prices, knowing what I know from your brief description. I'm sure others will give their 2 cents.<br>

I have used both and I really like the mmm on my B6200. It's much more maneuverable, the overall machine length is shorter, and deck removal is not all that bad. I take the deck off in winters for added clearance and use my back blade for snow. Regarding quality of cut, I have absolutely no problem getting the deck level-when I'm done mowing the finished jod looks great! Before I go, Chief mentioned something about blade tip speed on a rear mower. I believe the tip speed in RPM is the same as shaft speed. Whats different is the angular velocity (distance per unit time). However, a slow blade is still a slow blade, meaning ground speed of tractor is important.

Is there a great deal of difference between the B6200 and B8200 other than horsepower? I have a chance to sell my B6200 and move into a B8200 for little cash exchange, but I need to know the benefits. Is the B8200 frame different? How about overall weight? Can the 8200 handle larger 3 pt attachments?<br>

I bought my first, and only, Kubota last spring and it's been terrific. It's a 1990 B6200 with 60" belly mower and rear blade. I learned on this website that the B5200, 6200 and 7200 are great little machines. I have also found that resale value is excellent, although that goes for most Kubota products. I would recommend this model to anybody, provided it's in good condition and the price is fair

I was conducting business last week in Canada when I stopped in a small business that sells used machinery. They had 5 or 6 nice Kubotas in their front lot, but as I suspected, they were all grey market. However, these people also had several Kubota brand attachments inside their shop, one of which is an RL4 rear tiller. The tine width is 48" and the unit has cat. 1 hitch. Two questions: (1) Is there such a thing as grey market attachments? (2) Would anyone know if this tiller is compatible with my 1990 4WD B6200?<br>

Just my two cents. The big question is what did the tractor die of? Was it mechanical engine failure, or possibly a fuel or electrical problem. Chances are slim bad or wrong oil will cause a tractor to die from a fuel or electrical problem. Assuming it was engine failure (judging by repair price of $800) I think it's odd that a 5 year old riding mower which has been routinely and professionaly cared for all of a sudden "dies" after an oil change. The "black" oil must have been severely contaminated with something, or maybe it was too thick or thin to provide lubrication. Either way, it was certainly an extreme condition to have been the root cause of engine failure within such a short time. Regarding repair costs. I'd be wary of the $800 quote. Does that include a new engine? You can buy a nice electric start Briggs replacemnent engine, Intek 10 hp for example, for about $700. Also, depending on the Model tractor, $800 might be 80% the cost of a brand new rider, especially now with all the sales. I say get the oil analysis done, If it sends up a red flag go after the service people real hard, but don't spend $800 for repairs. Either find a much lower repair quote, or put the money towards a new rider. Some of those Sears riders are almost fully depreciated after 5 years.

Hey guys,

I have been using my new Kubota for most of this season, but I have also kept my early 70's Bolens Large Frame Garden Tractor ( model 1476). This thing is a true beast! It weighs almost 900 pounds, is mostly cast iron construction, and is in excellent original condition. I need a few odds and ends for it, but find it difficult to find parts. There was this place called Sonny's in Indiana, but I think they went out of business. Any ideas?

Just my two cents. I have a 1990 B6200 w/ 60"MMM that I mow three acres of field with twice weekly. That tractor will mow all day long without a hint of being underpowered. I even mow my neighbors field which includes grass and weeds up to the height of the tractor. Naturally, I do it in low gear to keep the blade speed high compared to ground speed, but it's quite effective on those types of jobs. Power is a relative term-but I wouldn't sell the 3 cylinder diesel short. I like my 6200, which is essentially the 7300 with a little less horsepower.I also maintain my 100' gravel driveway with a rear blade. Sorry, but I can't make a comment about FEL since I don't have one. But for mowing, snow removal and landscape work, I would give the 7300 a thumbs up. Sure, the new 7500 with extra HP is nice, but it's still basically the same frame size which is just as important as HP. The money you save buying the 7300 can be used to rent a large tractor for those "one time only" jobs, plus enough cash left over to buy a nice rear tiller.

I own a 1990 B6200 and mow three acres with it twice a week. The machine has been flawless and is very effecient at doing chores around the house. I use the rear blade to clean up the berm area of my driveway, and I have no problem pushing snow. I'm in the market for adding the tiller and will know more next spring, but most guys on this board with 6200s have no problems provided the tiller is sized properly. With 6 acres, presumably open space, the rear mount mower is a good choice. I have some obstacles on my property and therefore prefer my 60" mid-mount. I too was skeptical at first about the HP rating of my 6200, but I've since learned that 15 ponies from the 3 cylinder diesel is quite sufficient. Speaking from direct experience, my 6200 runs circles around my neighbors 22hp twin cylinder Briggs Vanguard. I'm not a front end loader expert, but for moving loads within the specs of the unit the tractor will perform just fine. I have agricultural tires with 4wd on my machine and that will prepare me for future tiller use. Turf tires are good for finish mowing, probably not that great for moving dirt or pushing snow. Depending on price, condition and accessories, I say buy the tractor. One thing for sure, the unit is almost fully depreciated and you can always sell it and get most, if not all, of your money back. As I found out, there is a strong market for the older 6200/7200 series machines. Willie H. might also be chipping in with comments about his B5200. <br>

I realize most of this forum deals with compacts, but I'm trying to help out a friend. He has a Cub Cadet 2135 L/G tractor with 14hp Kohler engine. The problem is the PTO. When the tractor is running and he engages the PTO switch, the blades begin to spin as expected. However, when he turns the PTO switch off, the blades continue to spin. The only way to shut the blades off is to turn off the tractor, then restart.Another tip: This tractor has safety reverse meaning the blades turn off automatically when you engage the reverse pedal. This is no longer working, meaning when reverse is engaged the blades continue to spin. Obviously the two problems are connected. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I assume a bad electric solenoid or possibly a bad clutch.<br>

I just read a reply on this board that stated the horsepower rating of an engine is less relevant than it's displacement. In essence, the comment suggested less horsepower from a large cubic inch displacement engine is better than more horsepower from a smaller CID engine. I disagree, but maybe there is some truth here. I understand "torque" as the act of doing work, frequently expressed in ft.-lbs. ( or newton-meters for Metric fans). I understand the rate of doing work per unit time, ft.-lbs. per second, is "horsepower". So where does engine displacement come into play?

I have a B6200 with 60" MMM. It comes off with reasonable ease, I'd say within 10 minutes. The 72" should be the same, except maybe a little heavier and thus more cumbersome to move around. The extra 12 inches of cut, however, will be a time saver. If your land is flat, I'd go 72"

Opinions on your questions are very subjective in that we do not know the overall condition, age or machine hours. I'm new to this site, but I'll take a stab at a selling price.I'll give $1,500 for the used loader. Tillers are worth about $400 to $800 depending again on age and condition, so lets say a nominal price of $600. (I know this because I'm searching for a tiller for my 6200). Rear blades are relatively inexpensive,let's say $200. Not an expert on brush hogs, but an educated guess is $700. The tractor, depending on hours and model year, is probably worth nominal $2800. ( I bought my clean 6200 with low hours for $3800) Total comes to $5800. Maybe round it up or down a little depending on hours, cleanliness, maintenence, availability of manuals, mechanical condition of implements etc.<br>

I've been searching for a rear tiller for my 4wd B6200 for several weeks now. I almost bought a new Howard last week, but backed off for financial reasons. Low and behold, a used Howard w/slip clutch appears in classifieds and it looks good. My concern is that's it's 48". Is that too big? According to the Howard manual, this unit is made for the 5100,6100,7100,and it's rated within the hp range of the tractor, so I assume it will work. However, I've had people tell me that I should stick to 38" or 42". I need opinions about the 48".<br>
