Kevin..those are homemade forks based on the Rankin design.

Brian..I mowed once last fall with the 2210. I was concerned about the ag tires but did not notice any problems. I made wide radiius turns and was in 2wd. We'll see this summer how it goes but I don't think the R1's will be trouble..I hope. I'm sure that in 4wd the fronts would gouge the turf regardless of the tire style.

I have not filled my tires and decided not to. The R1's are great in dirt. I took the chains off just before the last big snowfall and did not notice any traction problems blowing snow. I put the chains on after reading that R1's weren't the greatest on snow & ice. I don't plan on putting the chains on next winter based on this experience. And, almost all of my snowblowing has been in 2wd with & without chains. My 2c worth.

I don't have turfs so can't say what the difference would be. My guess is the R1's would be much superior in dirt over turfs.

Curious if the leak is around the top link attachment. I've read about several people with problems in that area but mainly on the early models.

But, congratulations on the new 2210. They're fine, capable rigs and mine has surprised me at just how much it can do. You'll fall in love.

I just picked up a little 28g Remington 1100 and thought I run some shells through it on the skeet field. Well, today was a tournament day at both of our local gun clubs..so after driving 100 miles..no shots fired. Anyway, I've shot 28's in skeet and find they do about as well as 12's. Very efficient. Any others out there with 28 experience?

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. My wife of almost 40 years was scared to death of flying early on...after she saw a wing uncovered (that's ALL there is to one!!??) Then, on the way back from the "south 48" over Teslin Lake in the Yukon, and after battling headwinds and moderate turbulence for almost 8 hours and listening to the wife being terrorized by the "bumps", she lost it and began ranting about not wanting to die in the water.

I lost it and reached over and opened her door and told her that that was just about enough for one day and to get out. She promised to be good and would take the bus from Whitehorse. Well, she ended up flying all the way back with me...under control.

THEN...she learned to fly! Now she has a commercial & instrument rating and has even learned basic aerobatics. A little knowledge hurts and then helps.

She could really help and add to the book. I don't know if she would want the part about her running her Citabria into the woods on a sandbar and having it chainsawed out, in the book...but that's just another story.

Hardwood..thanks for the tip about the "The Straight Story" movie. I immediately went to my local video place and rented it. I was a good watch. Very simple and just a fun movie. BTW, it was the last movie that Richard Farnsworth made. He committed suicide a year later after suffering from terminal cancer.

I hate to say it..but..Anchorage was in the low 50's(f) the last 2 days and the snow is running off like a river. Forecast is for the same with some rain, which will accelerate the breakup.

My neighbor even poured his concrete footers for his new aircraft hanger today and the construction guys said that there was very little frost in the ground. Due to 122" of snowfall that started early this year. BUT..I still enjoyed doing 16 snowblow jobs this year vs. 3 last year.

Jazaks..kwel idea. We have summer soltice lawnmower races here and THIS year I'm gonna win. My old Craftsman got blown off by a couple of other ones that had by-passed the governors and upped the gear ratios. I was considering nitrous before getting the 2210. I'm sure the Kohler would have chucked a jug or 2.

I believe the Deere outclasses everyone else here since it's the only CUT and everyone else is running riding mowers...heh, heh.

I believe the Germans did the diesel thing back in the 30's but they were too heavy. Now, they may end up being too light. I dunno..but it's an interesting concept.

C5er..I've got a 54" mmm on my 2210 & it works great as a finish mower. I do take it off when I do other work, like loader work, etc, due to ground clearance issues when I'm off in the woods or wherever.

Seems to me that the F-8F's ran 3350's. And I think the F-4U's did too. The P-47's had 2800's. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Busboy..thanks for the update. I think I'll look at an overhead mount on the cab roof.

What heaters are the Deere folks referring too? I don't know where you'd get enough amps to run an effective electric heater, though Curtis offers electric ones. My 5 worklights, along with the heater motor, windshield wiper and flashers, use most of the alternator's output. My Curtis coolant heater works great...with a 190T.

Mark..I did look up the stuff on the net and it looks like it compliments PS in areas that PS isn't designed for. Thanks.

BTW..I read an interesting post by Busboy about IDI diesels developing cracks in the pre-combustion chambers when using the higher temp thermostats. He said this was more of a problem with gensets and reefer engines 'cus they run to max at startup and temp spikes before the 'stat opens causes hotspots. Makes sense. I changed my 'stat to a 190 from the stock 160 due to lack of sufficient heat for the cab heater.

I warm up for 5min before engaging in heavy work and rarely run over 2500rpm. I wonder if I should go back to the 160 for heavy summer work? Cetane booster may also reduce the chance of hotspots. What's your take?

I'm having a 300gal. tank built out of 1/4" steel for a roller to compact our gravel airstrip. The manufacturer is also welding a tube through the center. Filled with water to 90% it will weigh about 2700lbs. I plan to use the box blade as TomG mentioned before rolling and then it will be hot sprayed with a binding agent.

Thanks for the heads up, Mark. The Ted's EZ hitch I put on allows for a little more spacing and lift height. Maybe I won't run into problems but being able to reverse the pins sounds good. I'll report on things when it comes in.

I worked hit & run investigations for 5 years with APD (Mark..back when we had a traffic unit). The prevalent motives for leaving the scene were/are: no insurance; suspended/revoked O.L.; DWI; borrowed vehicle (loaned it to my buddy, John..don't know his last name and haven't seen him again); teenager scared of his/her parents reaction; running from the scen of another crime; insurance fraud (this last one deals with reporting a H&R when it never happened)...in about that order.

H&R is a serious issue and those caught need to be seriously dealt with, BUT, the sorry fact is that about 35% of drivers are un-insured. So..the only answer is to buy coverage that you can afford and assume the idiot that trashes your vehicle is un-insured. This really means that you are buying coverage for you and anyone else out there that doesn't.

Throwing the lowlifes in jail is a positive but does not pay for the damage. AND..lowlifes never have any assets to attack.

$I got in some quality seat time yesterday digging out a buddy's JD455 FEL that got buried in 100mph windstorm snow drifts. When he described where it was and how the snow was like concrete I just sorta figured he was over dramatizing it. WRONG!! 6' high and the FEL was a good 30' into the drift..and it WAS hard as a rock..almost. I tried every technique I could dream up and what worked the best was curling the bucket down vertical, dropping the bucket 'til the front started to come off the ground, backing away and shaving slabs off, then loadering them out. The key was the toothbar. The bar sometimes had to be dropped several times while moving the bucket sideways a little at a time before the snow fractured. A toothless bucket would NOT have worked...I'm sold on dentures. So, 2+ hours and I finally got it out. I will admit that early on I began having grave doubts that this was gonna work. I had forgot just how hard a drift can be. My bud treated us to a fine steak dinner afterwards. Towing the Deere on wet roads (35f) got the Green Dragon dirty..so I had to wash & wax her upon my return...but that's another issue on the tractor waxing thread. And..probably another thread deals with this, but..we watched the tractor pulling contests in Indiana tonight. Hmmm..I'd need 30:1 compression, dual turbochargers, a gear change......and a CUT class to race in. (The Green won the super farm class)$ Toothbar vs snowdrift

I'm convinced that wx folks are politicians at heart. Not that they have a clue about what's gonna happen..but they spin stories and hope you buy them.

Here in Alaska, when I was driving airplanes for money, I'd call for a wx briefing every morning for my route (required). I'd get the "official" briefing and then was asked to let them know what the wx was REALLY like after I flew the route....duh??

I got a Carver toothbar for my 52" FEL. It was around $350 with UPS shipping to Alaska. Got it in 2 weeks. I tried it out on a steep bank that I intended to dig out & install a retaining wall. Even with the ground being frozen the teeth dug in a couple of inches with moderate force. I could see right away that it's gonna work as I'd hoped.
