Hopefully someone has experienced this before: My tractor is a SD2843T. Last week I hitched up my brush hog with plans to cut the field for the first time. I got the mower hooked up and activated the lever to lower the mower deck, but instead of going down, the deck shot straight up. It won't lower. Or should I say the rear PTO control arms won’t lower. The pressure gauge needle spikes when I push the PTO control, so I know I’m pushing fluid. However, the control valve for my loader also leaks fluid from the front caps when I put stress on the PTO lever. The loader’s control valve is a Prince model 5000 Mono block two sleeve, three position that only controls the front loader. The PTO control is electric and sits to right side of my seat mounted on the fender. All fluid for both front and back run through the Prince control valve.<br>
This tractor has two hydraulic pumps mounted back to back on the right side of the engine in front of the starter. The rear pump has a cylinder housing for a screen filter. I emptied out all the hydraulic fluid. I took the filter out and inspected it. It was very clean. I blew air through the line running up to the control valve. I disconnected all the lines running into the control valve and took it apart. I replaced all four O-rings and inspected it. It looked fine, so I put it all back together and remounted it. I took the electric control switch box off the fender and took it apart. I cleaned all the contacts and checked continuity with a multimeter. It works fine. I also took the time to change the engine oil and flush the radiator. After all that, the rear control arms are still stuck in the upward position. I finally got another tractor, lifted the brush hog up and dismounted it. If anyone has ever had a similar experience with a Grey Market tractor, I would appreciate knowing how you fixed it. The Grass keeps growing.<br>

Yeah Mike, electrical investigation is next. I have a few blocks under the brush hog. It has to be electrical. However, one thing I notice is that under pressure when I push the lever in the down position, the needle on my hydraulic guage shoots up like its under enormous pressure and my engine feels the pull. This would indicate that signal is getting to the pump. I also thought there might be a clog in the return line somewhere in the back. Either way, the tractor is completely drained of hydraulic fluid now so time to look at other possibilities.

My Shibaura is having the same issue. I have the knob between my legs with a symbol of a rabbit and a tortoise to indicate the speed in which the implement rises and lowers. I have it set all the way to the fastest position and my brush hog is stuck in the up position. The other day, I drove around for about 15 minutes and kept working the lever as well as my bucket, until It finally dropped down. I need to get my field mowed and nothing is budging this upper arms. I thought my hydraulic tank might be low, so I filled it, but fluid begain flowing out of the dipstick hole. I'm about ready to sell this little turbo.

Thanks K, I am going to spend tomorrow trying what you suggest. I have a feeling it is the starter. I'll start with checking cable tightness and then trace everything down to the starter and check the connection. If necessary, I'll pull the starter and test it on the bench. The battery sits in the nose and is so hard to pull in the position the bucket is in. I will probably have to remove the hood completely so I can pull the battery straight up. Thanks again. Thanks auerbach, and yes I refer to them as attaching points because they are two parallel 1/4" steel lines with fixed nuts on the ends. The inside of the lines are threaded. They appear to be auxillary hydraulic attachment points for something connecting to the back of the tractor. I don't have anything that needs fluid off the back, so I never paid any attention to there existence before. kthompson mentioned that I may have inadvertantly activated a valve allowing fluid to run through one of the lines. As soon as I lift the brush hog deck a steady stream shoots out of one of the lines. I have probably lost half my fluid by now trying to narrow down a sollution.
