I went to my local JD dealer to pick up some parts and while I was there got the lowdown on the oil for the hydraulics. I was told the hydraulic oil was a low viscosity oil and if I used the engine oil in the hydraulics it would be too thick and cause overheating issues and premature failure. While he didn't know what the viscosity should be, he recommended using the JD hydraulic oil. He also told me I shouldn't have to completely change it and to just make sure the levels are correct.

When you say linkage, do you mean the steel plates on the deck where the "J hooks" attach? I did notice on the left side the plates are bent and I had to temporarily use a C clamp to prevent the deck from becoming disconnected from the J hook. Right now I have the deck removed, so some rust holes can be welded and I'm planning on heating up the plate so it can be bent back to the proper shape. Trying to find a used deck/shell for this tractor has been like pulling teeth from a crocodile. I did find one on eBay for $850.00 and it was in worse shape than my deck. On a different note, I ordered some new aftermarket side panels for the tractor but they were for a different 445, I'm guessing for a Zero Turn. The slots where the metal spring clips weren't even close lining up. Of course, JD has obsoleted a lot of the parts I want for this tractor so I'm at the mercy of the aftermarket...

That is awesome! Bluegrass is pretty big up here in S/W PA believe it or not. On a side note my aunt was from Boone and I visited there a long time ago. My uncle had a job where he moved to a new location every few years. Her family was in the furniture business and whenever she moved into a new house she'd call home, place her order and have new furniture shipped to her new house. Must be nice...
