DeTwang If you are welding the hitch directly to the frame leave the lift gate out of the question.

If you are welding the hitch to the lift gate frame that is attached to the frame then its anybodies guess.

If you get pulled into a state DOT inspection you need to be able to show them all of the engineered rating of each component where the hitch is attached and the certifications of the welds.

If you do not give a rats butt about the DOT weld the hitch on buy, rent or borrow a trailer and go for it. Just keep in mind:

"IT DOES NOT MATTER IN AN ACCIDENT (especially if someone gets seriously hurt) NO MATTER WHOS AT FAULT IF YOU HAVE A TRUCK OR ARE TOWING SOMETHING. YOU ARE GOING TO GET A VERY COMPRENSIVE INSPECTION BY SOME ONE WHO WANTS TO SEE RATING NUMBERS. ALSO YOU BETTER HAVE THE WEIGHTS CORRECT AND REGISTRATIONS TO SUPPORT.

Are ya gonna have a accident? No probably not! BUT how much risk are you willing to accept? Especially from some moron who rear ends or "T" bones you running a stop sign with no seat belt and gets a broken neck. Here you are with this, home made non rated, rig asking for a major lawsuit. As I said it does not matter who is at fault here. Its not fair but you are gonna take the heat.

I am invloved with lots of trucks and have been there and done that! All that said I still do lots of stuff that is nowhere near the letter of the law. So I say go for it!

On the heat issue you may have more radiators than the engine needs at that temp.

Block your front radiator completely, remove your coolant cap, turn you heater valves off, have a good therometer, and measure temp that the thermostat opens.

If you are running your tractor during these temps you might get away with bumping up your thermostat or keeping the radiator blocked and your small heater radiators will do the job for you.

Also check your valving to the aux heaters just because the valve looks open or acts open does not mean there might be an obstruction or a pinch in the line some where.

Blocking the radiators is no longer needed nor should they be used on newer trucks. Newer equipment has thermostats, clutches on fans and most important after coolers that HAVE TO HAVE AIR to keep them cool.

Have been at the loading bench and taking a break B4 supper or I would go out to shed, unbury hoe and look.

I've had mine out and restacked the valves to match excavators. It's not rocket science.

A leak is most likely a loose hose fitting or relief connection. I would look for the simple fix B4 I started tearing it all apart.

Remove the panels and get access and check all.

If you want to match colors exact or very close with hardners any major auto refinisher supplier will have the stuff. You will have to spray paint and have a thick wallett.

If you just wanna dab some green paint on, tractor supply also sells what they call JD Green. It will look ok brushed on and if it sits out you will notice some fade in a couple of years.

JD dealers have some spray bombs that will also do the job and you can go back time after time and get a can or 2 as you need it. This seems to be the easiest and least wasteful route for me. I have done them all.

Finish coats with hardners will give the best look and service.

First off what kind of fill is it? Ditch cleaning fill is almost all fines and it will never be stable. Over burden that has been stripped from a site depending on the composition may or may not settle. Clean well graded gravel would be the best but it is rare anyone would give it away and that will settle in fine.

You can roll and pack in layers all you want and when mother nature waters it and freezes it all those packed particles push apart.

Shape it the way you want it let mother nature do its thing and if the composition of the soil dictates a ground fabric before you start to build a road or foundation slab use it.

I was at Dealer the other day. They sold all of the new cabbed cuts B4 & as soon as they arrived. No other stuff seems to be moving.

My wife's embroidery business is down also. I just can not see people with the extra cash on hand.

Gas is going up... Stock market seems to be moving some. You'd think things are starting to improve.

A 1944 Farmall M. Have obtained all the manuals for it including the War Tractor rubber tire warnings.

I was raised on Red tractors my first to drive was a H I could just barely push the clutch and brakes at the same time but that was a requirement to be able to drive it in the field while grown ups loads hay or shocks of oats or corn.

It gets used frequently for grunt work and a occasional Sunday afternoon ride (Saturday am really) around the country side. Photos on pic somewhere.

Glad to see the # do hickey was changed. I started another thread with a link to Farmalls.

The serial # comes up as a 1040 H or a 1941 M the S at the end of the number relates to the type of transmission, I believe. At least that is how my old M comes up.

The other big problem with wet materials is bridging. Wet sand depending how much -200 material is in it packs very hard. It do not like the hopper type spreaders.

The older push spreaders 24-30" wide with the drop out the bottom holes and a rotating shaft to feed the material might work better.

If you keep your sand out side and frozen you can spike the pile with calicum or mix in salt and that will help keep it workable.

It was one of the over the counter gas cartridges farmers buy.

It was not so much the problem of the cartridge as it went in by dead grasses and the hole is suspose to plugged imeadately with a sod wad and that did not happen.

I would not put any thing that burns or can be ignited down a hole under, near, by my house anywhere.

Reminds me of a story Jerry Clower telling about flushing a nest of rats out of a hole with gasoline and a match... a hundred burning balls of fur running toward the hay barn...

Anyone who wants to write or send something should put up their real location and a good address.

I think it is a good law maybe it will help get rid of the spammers that hide their idenities thru various web sites and liberaly stolen legit e-mail addresses.

And for those who think "Uncle Sam" has never listened to any and all signals in the air, regardless of their origin or destination, needs to wake up.

The problem with shortening the top link as the only means of getting the blade higher is it changes the angle of the cutting edge. On hard pac it needs to be aggressive and on soft unfrozen ground less agressive.

When you are parked on the level your lift arms level measure ground to hole. When your blade is level measure ground to pin. The difference is the amount you "should" add in plates by fabricating risers so you can get the most out of your set up.

These should not be a complicated deal. However swapping belts and reversing drives can drive the best up a wall.
