I have a JDx575 garden tractor. Has any one used the JD PTO 10K generator with this unit?

I have the generator..... just haven't used it yet.

I can give you info from the owner manual if you need it. One thing I did notice was that it is not rated to generate full power with gas engine X tractors. ....

I wonder if I could get 7500 out of it or would it put too much of a load on the 575 23 hp gas engine? ....

It is designed (for the X series) to rest on the ground with a straight/level drive shaft back to the PTO.

I am going to have to put a bolster of some sort under it to get a level drive line with my 4115. ....

So in your opinion would you go with the x5 PTO gen. or a gas standalone? It is used for residential use only when we have power outages.

Good question... and one that has been debated here extensively.

I think it comes down to cost and fuel availability. We have stories from last year in the North East where the power was off long enough that folks were out looking for more fuel and encountered huge lines or just closed gas stations.

Gasoline is hard to store in large enough quantities and keep fresh. Even with stabilizing additives it has a shelf life of a year or less. A gasoline engine that sits unused for a couple of years is likely to have a gummed up carb just when you need it most.

Propane is a great solution but not everyone has a large tank available to run a standby generator.

I chose the 10k Deere because I need that level of power to start my deep (very deep) well pump and I store fuel for my diesel tractor and diesel ATV in a 50 gallon tank.... enough to run the house for several days before I would have to go out foraging for fuel.

It is not a perfect situation but on balance it works best for me.

If I were doing it over again, this year, it might be different, as I am converting the house over to propane. That 500 gallon tank would power the house for a long time.

I have a diesel x595. If I hook up a 10kw generator to it and let it run full throttle for several days to power my house during electrical outages, would that be hard on the engine?

We have had outages that has lasted as long as 9 days straight. ....

Mike1819; I'm not real sure which engine Deere uses in the 595, but I can't see any damage coming from contunious operatio long as periodic checks are kept on engine oil level, coolant level, etc. They're probably called something else today, but in past years engines for generators, irrigaton pumps etc. had what we called "Murphy Switches". All they really were are oil pressure and temperature sensors that would shut the engine down in case of a lube ot coolant failure. I'm sure they are still available and likely could be adapted to your mower. We used to put a fuel barrel beside an "M" Farmall to power a grain drier in the fall that ran 24/7. We wre lucky but others had fan belt failures or ran low on oil and cost them an engine, so the "Murphy Switches" would add a level of comfort. Best of luck. Frank. ....

The diesel in the X-series will kick the Deere generator along at full power.

I know people with remote lodges in Alaska who turn on their diesel generators in the spring and shut them down when they leave in the fall.

Assuming the parameters Frank mentioned above, I see no problem running your little diesel 200 hours straight, shutting down to change the oil, and going right back at it. ....
