Use this tractor for periodic bushhogging. One day noticed that it was smoking. Realized that the fan belt had broken (don't know how long it had been broken before I noticed it). After looking it over, noticed that the waterpump had play and that the fan belt blades was hitting the shroud. Replaced fan belt, water pump and installed a new thermostat. Also installed replacement fan which had six small blades vs. the original which had 5 large blades.
Checked to make sure water flowing in/out of radiator and through hoses. In idle, no bubbles noticed in radiator. No water/antifreeze noticed in oil. Still runs hot when bushhogging after about 10/15 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Have you checked that the rad itself is clean and air can flow freely through it?

Beyond that have you actually verified that it really is running hot with a thermometer? I've seen gauges go off after an over heat situtation before.

Best of luck. ....

On my massey there is a screen in front of the radiator.
that gets clogged and needs to be cleaned periodically to keep it cool.

Another consideration is that maybe the oil got burned and should be changed.
Also change the filter, as it may be clogged from the overheat. ....

The tractor fan belt broke. When realized it the tractor was running hot. Observed play in the water pump. Replaced water pump, hoses, and installed new fan belt. These tractors have little excess radiator capacity. You could have plugged passages in the radiator which would require a shop to boil it out. Getting hot that fast makes me think of a cracked head (common problem) but hope not. ....
