I recently purchased a sweet 02 Ford F350 Dually with the 6.8L V10 engine. It had less than 60,000 miles and drove like new. I will use it to tow a 30-36' fifth wheel trailer.
Today I looked at purchasing an extended warranty on the truck but was told the V10 has inherent problems that cause issues very expensive to fix.
Please let me know (1) if you use this vehicle setup and (2) if you have had any trouble with the vehicle.

The first generation V10 (275hp up to 1999 model year) had an issue with the spark plugs, there wasn't enough threads and they could pop out and strip the head.
The issue was fixed with the 310 hp model starting in 2000.
The older model only had 4 threads per plug, in the update they got 8 threads per spark plug.
There have been no widespread problems since then that I know of. This engine is by far the most common one found in motorhomes, most of which, like mine, are at nearly GVWR before you even add any contents or people.
If they'll go +200k like that without issue, I'm sure you'll be just fine.
Best of luck. ....
