IS anyone aware of a site to tell what GVWR a truck is? Have been told trucks that were sold as chassis often were left for the company who added the bed they used to install the rating plate and that was not dependable on happening. Failed to find any indication of such a rating plate on a 2000 GMC 3500 dump. Have been told by same Chevy Commercial salesman the GVWR of the 3500 did vary some with the introduction of the 4500 model.

Kenny, try "decodethis" dot com.

Basically though a 3500 series truck, cab & chassis or pickup, will have an 11,000 pound GVWR.

Best of luck. ....

Kenny it's not a plate per se you are looking for. It is a decal typically found on the drivers side door just under the latch mechanism. It will tell you what the front and rear axles will carry too. ....

I agree with you Jeff but there is no sign of one on the truck or ever having been there. Don't think the door has been replaced either. ....

Murf, interesting site. Thanks.

Think it proves what you said but also tells me it has anti lock brakes and I was not aware of that. ....

I'd be surprised if there was a truck built in recent years that didn't have ABS on it.

Even our 5 to trucks have ABS on them.

Best of luck. ....

Ok, if it's not on the door then check the door jamb. By law it has to be there, somewhere. ....

I've seen lots of trucks without one, they get pressure washed off, fall off, are removed for a paint job, or because the drivers door was replaced (with either new or used parts) because of rust or other repair.

The VIN however will tell you everything you need to know about the chassis.

Best of luck. ....

Bought a trailer and truck 2 weeks ago on truck and 3 on trailer. Put truck in shop this week for some minor issues and got it out today.

Bought a 2000 GMC 3500 with dump bed on it. Put it to work last Saturday and if weather if good tomorrow also. It sure made hauling and unloading trash from old barn easy.

Every body needs a tractor, trailer and dump truck. Looks good loaded and parked in yard.

Bought both for my needs...price cheap and travel on road short. ....

Ken;
I agree a small truck is a handy machine. I bought a Dodge one ton with a combination livestock/grain box and hoist new in 1976, it finally gave out in about 2004 or 5. It hauled everything from corn to crushed rock, lots of trips to the junkyard, etc. It was far from big enough to be a commercial hauler, but big enough for my own use. The tags were lots less than a big truck. I bought a goose neck trailer for the pickup after the "Tonner" gave out, but sold it later after we quit farming.
The gooseneck and bumper hitch trailers have just about put the mid size farm truck out of the picture here, I haven't saw a new farm truck in years other than semi's with a hopper bottom, they are getting thick as fleas around here. I'm starting to see some of the nre streched hopper bottom trailers with a third axle lately. I think when hooked to a tractor with a cheater ahead of the tandems they can scale 98,000.

Frank. ....
