My farm pro 2420 will not go in reverse of first. I took the top cover off and all the gears look good. I can shift it into reverse or first by moving the fork by hand. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dewey

Note that the shift lever extends below the cover plate. It should end in a ball shape, maybe the size of a small marble. That fits into the channel that slides on the rails. If it's there, take care to make sure it STAYS in the channel as you replace the cover plate. If it's broken off, you need to fish the broken piece out of the tranny before it destroys a gear set. Clearly the shift lever would have to be replaced.

Did you get it fixed?
I am in need of a copy of the parts book for the 2420 transmission. I'm in process of fitting a 2420/jm204 engine to a 2425 tranny. Was going well until I found out the transmission input shaft on the 2425 is 2 inches longer than the 204........so will be swapping shafts........all so I don't have to repair the differential on the 204!! ....

I was unaware of the two different shafts. I thought for years that the 200 Series all shared the same transmission. But you're there, and I'm not. Click below for a retail location for the manual ....

Yes, I was lead to believe everything behind the flywheel was the same, too. We're both probably thinking back before the added the 2 stage clutch.
First the flywheel housing would not bolt up(even though there was an adapter for the 3 cylinder that had been removed)So I pulled the hi/lo transmission. that's when I found out the shafts were different lengths.
I know where to buy the manuals, but Farm Pro USED to have some on line.....can't find them now. Was really wanting to use a free pdf file.
Still trying to figure out how to remove the shafts, since there are no repair manuals, just operation and parts manuals. ....

Well, I haven't removed a transmission shaft. But I've removed/replaced a transfer case output shaft. The tranny has a more complicated gear train, but the basic principle is the same. There's a C-clip on either side of the bearing(s)and grease/oil seal(s). Removal of the clips permits longitudinal movement of the shaft. Then remove the bearing(s)/seal(s). Perhaps this exploded diagram will give you an idea of what's where. Appears all the clips along the entire shaft get pulled. Once free, it gets pulled forward carefully - as you pick one gear/bushing/seal after another off the other end. The trick is to put it back together in the same sequence.

This does not appear to have the two stage clutch option. With the 2 stage, there is an inner shaft for the pto and an outer, larger shaft for the gear train. I have the parts book for a JM 182. I need a picture for a JM 204 or a Farm Pro 2425.
We're on the right track, though. Thanks. ....

Yup, that's the two stage. Note the diagram title: the Chinese translation is "Double Speed". And the shaft is indeed nested; inner PTO, outer drive. Hard to see in the small diagram, but there are two sets of splines where the shaft eventually mates with the 2 stage clutchpack; smaller diameter forward splines go through the drive disc and mate with the PTO disc. Larger splines behind them mate with the drive disc
